AMD has just released the Adrenalin 26.6.2 WHQL Driver. This driver adds support for FSR 4.1 Upscaling to all RDNA 3 GPUs. It also adds support for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations DLC.
AMD FSR 4.1 is an ML-based solution that aims to provide better visual and performance than FSR 3.0. According to AMD, even without dedicated floating point AI hardware, owners of the RDNA3 GPUs will be able to enjoy the benefits of it.
It’s worth noting that this driver adds support only for FSR 4.1 Upscaling. It will not allow RDNA 3 GPUs to take advantage of the FSR 4.1 Frame Gen Tech. Instead, RDNA 3 GPUs will still fall back to FSR 3.1 Frame Gen.
Nevertheless, this is great news for all RDNA 3 owners. AMD FSR 4.1 is used across more than 300 games.
AMD claims that it has redesigned FSR 4.1 for RDNA 3 GPUs. To showcase its visual improvements, the team shared a video that provides some comparisons between FSR 3.1 and FSR 4.1.
What’s also interesting here is that AMD compared the official FSR 4.1 release with the unofficial RDNA 3 mod that appeared after the INT8 version of FSR 4.0 leaked online. According to AMD, the official version delivers better performance. However, the improvement is fairly small. In most cases, FSR 4.1 runs only about 3 to 5 FPS faster than the modded version. So, while the official release is the better option, users should not expect a major performance boost.
AMD has also fixed a couple of issues with the Adrenalin 26.6.2 WHQL Driver. To be more precise, it has fixed some crashes that could occur in RoadCraft on Radeon RX 7000 GPUs. It has also fixed a purple screen issue with the HP Reverb G2 headset with SteamVR on the Radeon RX 6000 GPUs.
