Here is something for our Resident Evil 2 and BioShock fans. Two co-op mods have been released for these games, allowing you to play their campaign modes with your friends. So, let’s take a closer look at them.
Let’s start with the co-op mod for Resident Evil 2 Remake. This is a local splitscreen co-op mod. It does not support online co-op. As such, one player can use a keyboard and mouse, while the other uses a gamepad. You can also use two controllers.
There are five ways to play. You can share one screen, use split-screen mode, or play with fixed camera angles. You can also let the computer control your partner. The fifth option keeps the mod’s classic HUNK-style controls.
You can pick from 15 characters. These include HUNK, Leon, Claire, Ada, Sherry, Tofu, and more. Many characters also have their own outfits, voices, and moves.
The mod offers three main play styles for your partner. HUNK of Boy has endless ammo and can heal you or refill your gun. HUNK’y Friend has their own gear and can get hurt. HUNK of War gives your partner only a knife and a handgun.
Your second player can have their own gear and inventory. They can pick up ammo, guns, and healing items. You can also build custom gear sets for each character. You can even change how much gear they carry and which guns they use.
The mod adds many team play features. You can give items to your partner or take items from them. You can also help them when they fall. If they run out of health, they can crawl until you help them up. Both players going down means game over.
The AI partner can do much more than follow you. You can tell them to stay close, move to a spot, hold fire, or attack your target. They can fight foes, heal you, reload your gun, open doors, and follow you through rooms. They can also catch up after you climb a ladder or drop down a ledge.
You also get free aim, laser sights, and a quick menu for your partner. You can change the controls, camera, aim speed, and other options. The mod supports Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and many other gamepads. It also has its own menus and a small HUD for partner status and gear.
There are extra options too. You can let both players hurt each other with guns, knives, and other weapons. You can also use one shared inventory. These features are marked as experimental and are off by default.
On the other hand, the co-op mod for BioShock supports both local and online play. With this mod, you can play the full story with a friend. You will explore Rapture, fight enemies, hack machines, and take down Big Daddies together.
The mod lets both players share the same game world, meaning that you can see your friend in the game. You can also open doors, use switches, pick up quest items, and move through the story as a team.
As with all co-op mods, you can also fight the same enemies. Both players can deal damage and kill foes. Enemy deaths are shared, too. Big Daddies are also shared in most areas. If one player kills a Big Daddy, it dies for both.
Some parts of the game work in a different way. Each player can make their own choice when dealing with Little Sisters. You can rescue or harvest them on your own. Each player also gets their own ADAM and ending choices.
The mod also tracks your friend with a marker. When one player moves to a new level, the other can follow. If you end up in different areas, some parts of the game will stop syncing until you meet again.
There are some limits right now, though. Your friend will appear as a Splicer, something that may put off some players. Some foes may not sync right, and you may also see odd movement, crashes, or other bugs. Cutscenes do not always work as they should, and the final boss fight must be done on your own.
From what I know, both of these mods are in a somewhat early stage. So, you may encounter some bugs and glitches. Still, they are a cool way to re-experience these two games.
Those interested can go ahead and download them from here and here.
Speaking of unofficial co-op modes, you can find similar mods for Yakuza 0, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Modders have also enabled the co-op mode for Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Moreover, most of FromSoftware’s games have co-op mods. Thus, you can download ones for Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6. In June 2026, we also shared a co-op mod for Lies of P.
And that’s not all. The unofficial PC port of Super Mario 64 also has a co-op mode. In May 2026, we shared a co-op mod for Bloodborne, which PC gamers can enjoy via the PlayStation 4 emulator, shadPS4. Plus, there is a 16-player co-op mod for Subnautica 2. Finally, you can download co-op mods for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter World.
Have fun!
