Modder ‘Yui’ has just released the Seamless Co-Op Mod for Dark Souls 2. This mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions.
As the modder noted, with this, it’s theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session.
With this mod, players will stay in the same world after death and return at the last bonfire they used. Boss kills and cleared areas will no longer end the session or send players home. Fog walls and other limits will also be removed.
The game will keep NPC talks and world events in sync for all players. Resting at a bonfire will reset the world for everyone. Progress made in co-op will also carry over to each player’s own world. You can play with up to five other players, and the game will also get a new peer-to-peer system using Steam’s newer network tools.
The Seamless Co-Op Mod also adds many quality-of-life features. Players can join the host from anywhere in the world. If they get disconnected, they can quickly rejoin the game. Other changes include a menu volume option, better controller support, borderless fullscreen mode, and the ability to skip the ending credits. The mod also brings back some old cosmetic items.
Since the mod can make the game easier, it adds new ways to keep the challenge. Players can change enemy scaling to fit their needs. They also cannot rest at a bonfire while another player fights a boss. If you die during a boss fight or invasion, you must watch the other players until the fight ends or someone rests at a bonfire. There is also an optional curse system that makes enemies harder after each death. Too many deaths can even cause trouble in the game world.
