One of the biggest complaints about Starfield was that you could not fly to planets in real time. You also could not land on them seamlessly. A mod has already fixed the first issue. Now, a new mod is in the works to fix the second. This mod will let you land on any planet in the game in a seamless way.
Modder ‘Frederik Wessberg Is A Nerd’ has been working on this mod for half a year and shared a video to showcase it. As you will see, you will be able to get really close to a planet. Then, clouds will start covering the entire screen. That’s when the game will be loading the planet’s surface.
As you fly down to a planet, you will pass through real 3D layers of volumetric clouds. These clouds use the game’s weather and climate data. You will also see storms, lightning, and glowing lights near the poles.
The mod adds many other details as well. You will see a soft glow above the dark side of a planet. The air will look right based on its makeup. You will also see city lights on the ground, along with shadows from clouds and land.
The mod will also use the game’s data to show real biomes, oceans, and snow-covered peaks. During re-entry, your ship will glow from the heat. The heat will also leave ash on its hull. New cockpit displays and ship HUD features will give you more info as you fly.
The modder got the idea after seeing Seamless Grav Jumps and Seamless Planet Takeoffs. The new cruise mode in Starfield also helped spark the idea. But one thing was still missing: the ability to land on planets with no loading screens.
At first, the modder thought this would be a small project. It soon became clear that it was much harder than expected.
In the base game, planets look like flat images when seen from space. Some also have moving clouds or an outer layer of air. If you fly too close, these images stop looking real. The game also stops showing the air in the right way.
To fix this, the modder had to rebuild how planets look from space. The new system uses full 3D models. This lets planets look sharp and detailed at any height.
The mod also uses the game’s own data. This includes maps, biomes, weather, and the makeup of each planet’s air. It also takes into account the planet’s path, its distance from the sun, and the light from nearby moons.
All in all, this will be a must-have mod for Starfield. Sadly, though, is no ETA for when it will come out. Naturally, though, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Speaking of Starfield, here are some other mods that you can download. This mod adds cool quests when you explore new places. There’s also a mod that makes dead bodies move realistically, as well as a mod that aims to overhaul the game’s enemy AI. In September 2023, we shared the Disk Cache Enabler Mod, which helps reduce how much space the game uses on your computer. Additionally, there is an 80GB 4K Texture Pack you can download. Halo fans can use this mod to play as the Master Chief himself. In April 2024, we also shared a DLC-sized expansion mod that allows you to create whole colonies with giant mechs, defense turrets, a farming system, and more. Oh, and if you don’t like the default camera views in dialogue, there’s a mod to disable them.
Sprinting Stuttering Fix is another cool mod that stops the annoying stutters when you run. Then, you can grab this mod that makes the game run smoother by fixing a bunch of scripts. Plus, I highly recommend using the Seamless City Interiors Mod. You can also get StarFinance, which brings an advanced financial system. And don’t forget these two must-have mods that make the game look and feel better with a new User Interface and cooler Particle Effects. On the other hand, this mod lets you travel between planets in real-time. We also have this mod, which adds 50 new space encounters to the game. This other mod adds 300 new repeatable sandbox missions. And let’s not forget the Fleet Expansion Mod. Finally, this mod brings a dynamic weather system into the game, and this mod improves the behavior of NPCs.
Lastly, here are all the best Starfield mods you can download. Or you can view this page and start exploring everything we’ve shared about Starfield.
