Today, we bring you not one, not two, but four unofficial native PC versions of classic console games. So, PC gamers can now enjoy natively on their PC Tekken 3, Mario Kart Wii, Pokemon Crystal, and Extreme G natively on their PCs.
I’m pretty sure everyone is familiar with Tekken 3. This is the fighting game that made Tekken popular with the masses. The PC version has 2X Supersampling with nearest-neighbor filtering to preserve sharp pixel aesthetics. It also lets you run it at high resolutions.
I’ve played it recently, and I can say that Tekken 3 feels a lot slower than Tekken 8. The combos are simpler than those in T7 or T8. Surprisingly enough, though, there are things that still remain in the latest Tekken games. This shows how ahead of its time Tekken 3 was.
Those interested can download it for PC from here. To run it, you will need the US PS1 ROM file. Other regions are not supported, at least for now. This PC version is based on the PlayStation version, and not on the arcade version.
Then we have the PC version of Mario Kart Wii. We’ve previously gotten an unofficial PC version of Mario Kart 64. But now, it’s time for the Wii game to hit the PC.
The PC version has basic PC features. It allows you to run the game at high resolutions, and at any aspect ratio you want. It also supports unlocked framerates with interpolation. The original game is hard-locked to 60 fps. The PC version can generate interpolated frames in between, so on a 120/144 Hz monitor things genuinely look smoother.
You can download this unofficial PC version of Mario Kart Wii from here. To run it, you will need the PAL ROM file. After all, as with all recompilations, it does not contain any in-game assets.
Next in line is the PC version of Pokemon Crystal. The gen1recomp
has added support for Pokemon Crystal. The engine and map behavior are hand-written in Lua, and game data and graphics are decoded from a ROM supplied by the player. Gen1recomp supports a lot of classic Pokemon games. And now, we get to also play Pokemon Crystal.
You can get gen1recomp from here.
For instance, it has support for ultra-wide PC monitors. It also supports high framerates. Game objects and terrain, texture scrolling, screen effects, and all HUD elements are all rendered at high framerates. Not only that, but the PC version has been optimized to have as little input lag as possible, making the game feel more responsive than ever. You can download it from here.
In case you are into projects like these, you can also download the unofficial PC port of Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Crash Team Racing, and Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. You can also play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Perfect Dark, and Jak & Daxter.
And that’s not all of them. We also have the unofficial PC ports of Mario Party 4, Sonic Unleashed, GoldenEye 007, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Silent Hill, and Super Smash Bros 64. Last month, we also shared the unofficial PC ports of Gears of War 2 and Syphon Filter. And earlier this month, we shared the PC ports of Diddy Kong Racing and Ace Combat 6.
Have fun!
