Modder ‘fromsoftserve’ has been working on a major graphics overhaul mod for Dark Souls Remastered, called Dark Souls Re-Remastered. And today, after 8 months and over 1000 hours of work, this mod reached its V1.0 version.
While the mod can now be considered complete, fromsoftserve will still release some updates for it. My guess is that these updates will fix some issues that passed under the modder’s nose.
Dark Souls Re-Remastered adds dynamic shadows to every map. For those unaware, most DS1 shadows were baked in it. So, this mod adds dynamic ones which are far more accurate and include way more objects too. Additionally, the mod restores the PTDE lighting to every map. Not only that but it upscales almost every texture, most of which are ported from PTDE. That’s both for environments and armors/weapons. Thus, the game will now look sharper.
It’s also worth noting that Dark Souls Re-Remastered generates new normal maps for most surfaces, and adds parallax occlusion mapping to more surfaces. It also brings better water reflections and better distant geometry.
And that’s not all. The mod adds more grass in Undead Burg, Firelink Shrine, and other places. It also fixes mesh holes that were present in many mappieces. Shadows are now of higher resolution, and there is better AO on the player lantern. Finally, the mod adjusts the Depth of Field effect so it’s closer to how PTDE used it.
In short, this is a must-have mod for everyone who wants to replay Dark Souls Remastered. So, make sure to download it from this link.
In theory, this mod should be compatible with this massive gameplay overhaul mod we shared in May 2023. This mod tweaked weapons, enemy AI, movesets, maps, stats, quests, and pretty much every single other aspect of the game. Dark Souls: Remastest V2.0 is another amazing mod that adds Halo: Combat Evolved weapons, new MP maps, special attacks and more to the game. And lastly, there is a mod that brings to the game the armors from Dark Souls 2.
Speaking of Dark Souls, I also suggest downloading the demo of Dark Souls: Nightfall. Nightfall is a complete fan-made sequel to Dark Souls with new bosses, combat mechanics, characters, and world design. Sadly, though, there is still no word on when it will fully come out.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

In the modern times, I feel modding is the greatest thing about video gaming. Nothing feels more free and satisfying than modding the hell out of old games and replaying it.
Absolutely, which is why PC is the best gaming platform.
Indeed. Especially when some of the the modders are more talented and creative than the studio that developed the game to begin with.
Modders have more time and less pressure, and they develop specific game features, devs are often under publisher’s pressure and have insanely tight dead lines for developing the “whole” game.
Most of the games that have been greatly overhauled with mods had awful development cycles like the STALKER series.
But sometimes the devs are just fcking lazy like Bethesda

What is PTDE?
Prepare To Die Edition, the OG none-Remastered PC version
I would love see about the performance, maybe i will test it on the steam deck
Yeah ok, thats what I call an actual remaster done right by modder. Not those 4K AI enhanced upgrades where you gotta use a magnifying glass to actually spot it.
This plus RTX HDR should look great.
Reflective surfaces, oversaturation, and out of place ugly textures
Ugly mod, rytarded tasteless modder, and vomit inducing game.
This is pure cancner
Dork Souls was always cancer.
“cancer”

Do you ever like anything you f*cking f@9?
Do you always have to be this insufferable
Get out if your filthy room sometimes and smell some fresh air maybe. F*cking dense cretin.
Yes, I like your mother’s cheeks bouncing off my groin.
This mod, while impressive work, still looks like lipstick on a pig, like it shows how old and sometimes ugly the original and this still is, but it also sometimes completely treads on the artistic intention of some scenes.
I just tried this mod with LSFG 2.0 and beyond looking awesome with the mod, those fake frames are a very welcome improvement with minimum artifacts, you have to look for them to notice most of the time. I’m using a controller with a 1000Hz dongle and the added latency is almost none.
DS was one of the first games I tried with LSFG on a 240hz monitor and the latency is real real bad, making it unplayable. 60fps already have a huge latency, 60 + frame generation, you must have the reflexes of a 120 year old to not notice it.
