Horizon Zero Dawn feature 4

Here’s Horizon Zero Dawn in 8K on an NVIDIA RTX 4090 with Reshade Ray Tracing

YouTube’s ‘Digital Dreams’ has shared a video, showcasing Horizon Zero Dawn running in 8K/Extreme Settings on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.

In order to capture this gameplay footage, the YouTuber used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with a Samsung EVO 970 SSD and 32GB of DDR5 RAM at 6000Mhz.

As with most of their video, Digital Dreams also used the BeyondallLimits Reshade Ray Tracing. This custom Reshade adds RT Global Illumination, which can noticeably improve the graphics of games that do not have native Ray Tracing effects.

From the looks of it, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 can run the game smoothly at 8K. Or at least it does not drop below 30fps. Since Digital Dreams has not included any overlay tool, it’s really hard to guess the actual framerate. While panning the camera, we can definitely see really smooth movement. So, I guess the RTX 4090 can run Horizon Zero Dawn with 60fps at 8K.

It’s also worth noting that Horizon Zero Dawn supports NVIDIA DLSS 2. Since the YouTuber has not shown the graphics settings, we are not certain whether they are using it or not.

Regardless of whether Digital Dreams used an upscaling technique, this video does the game justice. Horizon Zero Dawn never looked better, and can still offer some truly amazing graphics. And now, imagine how good Horizon Forbidden West will look on PC once it comes out. I know, I know, Aloy is not one of the most beloved characters. And that DLC alternative ending of its sequel really rubbed a lot of the game’s fans the wrong way. However, I really enjoyed the gameplay of the first title. So yeah, I’m personally looking forward to it.

  1. “Smooth when the camera pans”? The first major pan in the clip at about 15 seconds has a skip lasting a few frames. Maybe if you are used to 60 Hz these sorts of skips are harder to see, but it is jarring for me as 144-165 Hz user.

    1. All video encoders are locked to 60 Hz so higher framerates don’t help any and you can’t tell the difference between a game running at 60 FPS to one running at 144 FPS from a recording because the recording is 60 Hz. In other word all panning in videos are at 60 FPS and if they look fine 99% of the time then that only proves 60 FPS is good enough for video/graphics ….. The main advantage to 144 FPS is controller response times especially with online multiplayer which all have built in lag due to the Internet so you need better controller response times to make up for it whereas in a single player offline game you don’t

  2. I’m not really fan of this guy’s works. His videos are often titled with click-bait headlines and in a bulk of his videos he oversharpens, oversaturates, and cranks up the contrast to unrealistic levels.

    1. My guess is that OP tries to get those Adsense views/clicks by making news out of some youtuber gameplay showcase. Dunno why can’t create these kind of videos himself and self promote. He’s got a 4090 too.

    2. You are way too much gentle with your words for him. Let me do the honors for you mate. He is a genuine clown.

    1. But it’s a great way to show everyone who doesn’t have a 4090 how they’re all plebs and can’t afford to run these games with their overbearing modded graphics.

  3. Better to just play at the original graphics, this looks way overblown. Sony exclusives always look great years after they release so they’re not the ones I’d target with these mods.

      1. Best bows of any game ever made though …..

        Open world + story + cutscenes + third person + collectibles + monsters = Witcher 3

  4. Poor use of RTGI AO. Black values are crashed and they are
overlapping with default AO. Daylight scenes are over contrasted with
pitch black shadows and so many details are lost. Color balance is all over the place and if you want to download this atrocious preset and destroy your performance you have to be a patreon member…

If I ever see this kind of posts I will never visit DSOG again.

  5. Notice that he didn’t show any cutscenes ….. The reason for that is the crappy Depth of Field in the game which cannot be turned off looks really really bad for a Ray Traced Global Illumination Reshade. DoF does something to the Depth Buffers that SSRTGI needs to work correctly. Unfortunately you cannot turn off Depth of Field in the game because it seems to be baked in probably so a weak assed PS4 could get the game to run at 30 FPS

Really no need to render at 8K to make it look good, Just enabled DLDSR 2.25, drop in the latest nvngx_dlss.dll DLSS2 DLL into the main directory and set the game to DLSS Quality

  6. looks not so great the reshade that is. Games in 8K i dont know im still gaming in a humble 1440p Gsync 240 Hz 1 ms Curved monitor with HDR

  7. Godzi is still alive and makes my life a living hell. That’s why I’ll torture you with even more UE5 and RTX4090 stories 😛
