NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 feature

NVIDIA has just canceled the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 12GB GPU

Now here is something most of you didn’t see coming. After a huge backlash, NVIDIA has decided to cancel and “unlaunch” the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 12GB.

Here is what NVIDIA officially stated:

“The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing.

So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th.”

This is the right thing to do, so kudos to NVIDIA for canceling this version of the RTX 4080. My guess is that the green team will rename it to something like RTX 4070 (which, obviously, makes more sense).

We’ve also criticized this version during our calls with NVIDIA. However, we never thought that the green team would cancel it.

According to official benchmarks, the RTX 4080 12GB was significantly slower than the RTX 4080 16GB. Not only that, but the 12GB version had fewer CUDA cores and a slower memory bus.

To be honest, I don’t remember NVIDIA ever canceling a product due to fan backlash. Still, this is the right thing to do!

  1. “..kudos to NVIDIA for canceling this version of the RTX 4080. ”

Kudos to a company for trying to be the cesspool that it is, but backtracking after the enormous backlash at their blatant greed? JFC…..

      1. Serious question: Are you receiving any actual benefits from white knighting for the multi-million dollar company pulling anti-consumer shxt like they did?

    1. i wonder if Nvidia unlocks DLSS 3 for RTX 2000 e 3000 series, they will say
“..kudos to NVIDIA for bringing DLSS 3.0 to the older RTX cards”
Someone already unlocked it in Cyberpunk, using a 2070. Bet they locking this sh*t just to sell the new cards

      1. Really. Do you have a link to a video or something. Would be nice if this could be modded to support older cards.

  2. “My guess is that the green team will rename it to something like RTX 4070 (which, obviously, makes more sense).”

Only problem is, there’s now a XX70 card that costs $900

  3. It doesn’t matte if the price stays the same. The card is worse than a 3080 in some aspects if you don’t use dlss 3

    1. In what aspect? it looks worse on the box? what in the world are you on about, there are a few games where it performs a bit worse than the 3090 ti, not the 3090 much less the 3080, but these comments love the drama and complaining lol

      1. With OC 4070 should match 3090ti in most games (there will be some VRAM limited games for sure in the future), and that’s not bad considering people were paying over 2000$ for 3090ti not so long time ago.

      2. it was only about 15% faster than the old plain 3080 making it the most pathetic 80 series card ever made. 15% more performance for 42% more money than the 3080 10gb launched at is laughable. the eventual 4090 ti would end up almost 2 times faster than the pos 4080 12gb. in the previous gen stack that kind of gap would have placed it slower than a 3060 ti compared to the 3090 ti.

    2. Very much so, even the 4090 has less cuda cores than a 3080 ti, though they are more efficient. Raw rasterizing performance we are really paying dollar for dollar for the increase, without the DLSS ai magic which should not be a thing. If a card cannot peform a task at native resolution effectively then it should not be used in that resolution, my personal take.

      1. 4090 has less cuda cores than a 3080 ti??? stop talking out of your rear end. the 4090 has 16,384 cores where as the 3080 ti has only 10,240. and not only does the 4090 have 60% MORE cores, those cores are clocked 40% higher. so if anything having just a 65% perf increase from a new architecture with 60% cores at 40% higher clocks means there are quite a few deficiencies and shortcomings somewhere.

  4. “Sorry, we got caught”
I bet they name it RTX 4075 or some other bullcrap just to sell it for more than a typical xx70 class GPU.

  5. How generous of Nvidia to now sell their XX70 for a presumably higher markup at just $900 compared to 2020’s price of $500. They even cancelled their most anticipated product – the RTX 4080 – Not Actually A 4080 Edition. RTX 40 Gen’s ’80 is 50% more expensive, the ’70 is 80% more expensive, and RTX 40 appears to be just 45% faster – at best – while still being more expensive. “Impressive” is what this gen is, Johnny, right? Hahaha.

    1. Doesn’t matter in the least. Just them doing a circle back to use a different vector to push this garbage.

Just like Dawid Freeman says in his comment. It will simply be “re-branded”, to do what they initially sought out to do.

  6. LMAO..Well atleast they bloody, Did listen to the ShitStorm!
Well done as this was just to much to take.- 4070 it Shall be

    1. May be too late, Damage done for some customers out there.
AMD has an opportunity here, Hope they take it.

      1. Same here, I’m on a 2080Ti and skipped the 30 series to make up for the stupid price I paid for it.
Never had an AMD gpu before, But this could be it if they price it right.
I just want something 30-50% faster than my 2080Ti which shouldn’t be that hard to achieve as last gen from either company was already doing that at the top end.

  7. Now a XX70 series goes for 900$/€…Impressive.

PS: 3080Ti owner here, prices are getting absurd. Even my GPU went up in price once 4000 series were released.

  8. More like Kudo’s to everybody big on youtube that called the 12GB model BS as well as people alover the internet. Trying to sell a 70 tier card that seems no better then a 3080 for $899 is instanity. Sure it runs better with DLSS 3.0 but that’s only if the game uses DLSS 3.0. PAthetic on Nvidia’s end I say.

  9. Even 12GB VRAM is not enough these days. I remember just within the last couple months we had that Steelrising game that required 13GB VRAM for its ultra quality texture pack.
