SoMNst has released a new video update, showcasing an unreleased No VR Mod for Half-Life: Alyx. This new VR Mod promises to be better than anything we’ve seen to date, and will make the game perfectly playable on non-VR devices.
As said, this mod is not available yet for download. Moreover, there is no ETA on when it will come out. Still, and as you will see, this mod looks bloody amazing.
In its latest version, the modding team working on it has improved collissions, made some UI Improvements and used custom hints. Furthermore, the game’s story mode is now more than playable, and there is a working pen/draft. Not only that, but the team has adapted some complex puzzles to non-VR.
Again, this No VR Mod looks incredible and makes Half-Life: Alyx perfectly playable on non-VR devices. And yes, it looks pretty cool.
Now if you don’t want to wait until this mod comes out, you can go ahead and try another non-VR mod.
Speaking of Half-Life Alyx, VR gamers may also find these mods interesting. There is a Silent Hills PT Remake Mod, as well as a Bioshock Remake Mod. Modders are also working on a Goldeneye 007 Mod. Oh, and there is a WIP demo for a Jurassic Park Trespasser Mod.
Enjoy!

Just glad the weapon models and animations are looking great now, though the quality of life changes are very much appreciated.
This game wont be good in pancake mode.
Then it’s not good in VR either.
You’re being downvoted but I thought that, as a VR game being made by Valve, it was VERY dated and limited in mechanics. I did NOT think it was a very fun VR game…almost felt like a pancake game to VR mod honestly…felt the other way around.
I think it is good that non VR players will be able to experience this.
Especially when Valve didn’t even make a port for the cheapest VR option – PlayStation VR, because they are just being Valve as usual.
That would be the Quest, not PSVR
Quest is battery powered, right?
Also it is still more expensive.
Only if you play wireless.
If you use it as standalone it’s way cheaper than a PS4+PSVR, while giving you access to the entire PCVR catalog. It’s a no-brainer.
P.S.: F*ck Judenberg’s fecebook
Quest needs beefy PC for optimal performance, that is a non argument.
I agree. I guess it’s a positive that Half-life fans that can’t afford a PC VR setup can experience the story but I thought it was pretty mediocre as a VR game…as a pancake game it would be an absolute bore unless they change the AI and number of enemies…at the least.
Checking out the youtube video… some of the wow moments like first seeing the life size combine up close already felt underwhelming. I can’t see this game being that great in regular 2D. I actually don’t blame anyone for playing it this way tho… VR is dead aF. VR release’s have been dryer then Eliot Page’s man pu5$y. Buying a vr headset would feel like a waste of money these days.
Everybody and myself was expecting Half-Life: Alyx to push VR but instead it was the last great release. It’s been a year and a half of tumble weeds for vr game releases ever since. Perhaps the cost/return just isn’t worth it? I don’t know but vr is dead
I agree, good VR content is pretty scarce aside for Resi 7 and some others.

Jk.
*Them?
There should be robust VR renting services for these early years.
People should be able to experience it at home but not shell out a fortune.
You can get a 128GB Quest 2 for $300 before taxes at Walmart…it’s robust, standalone, and is a great PC headset with built-in wireless streaming. For $300.
no money no candy
Are you high? Who are you people and why do you always talk as if you know VR when you clearly don’t? Like, Alyx was a mediocre VR game at best and there’s been PLENTY of releases the past couple years that are AMAZING!
Hell, if you’re on PC (which you would be if you’re playing Alyx) then you have access to things like the Risk of Rain 2 VR mod, Outer Wilds VR mod…both being full on motion controller VR remasters basically. Better than the originals.
Since then just looking online since Alyx we’ve had Pistol Whip, Sniper Elite, Population One, The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, Star Wars Squadrons, The Climb 2, No Man’s Sky, I Expect You To Die 2, Jurassic Park Aftermath, Lone Echo 2 later this month, I could go on. Have you played Microsoft Flight Simulator in VR yet??? They’re even adding full on motion controls for the cockpits…does that sound “dead” to you?
Sure it’s not akin to console release numbers but, I mean VR is like 2% of the gaming community right now and look at the support it’s getting and continues to get!
It’s also not dead…how you could even say this with Oculus Quest 2 sales numbers and Apple coming out with a headset, Valve coming out with a standalone headset, Oculus coming out with a new headset, Playstation VR 2!!! You’re completely 100% ignorant and wrong on this subject, you should be ashamed putting out such horribly uneducated comments.
Go look at what’s actually going on instead of using your VR headset once to play Alyx 2 years ago before never using it again and then spouting the same repetitive nonsense like you all do over and over again.
You listed a bunch of mods and games with vr support that came out BEFORE alyx completely dismissing what I said about BIG releases after Half Life Alyx. All we get now are small indie game crap. I stand by what I said.
I listed two mods…which were out before Alyx? What other games did I list that were out before Alyx?
Also, I love how even IF I listen something that came prior to Alyx you completely ignore EVERYTHING else I said. VR is DEAD according to your hardheadedness but yet new headsets are coming out in droves.
You’re wrong. Period. Sorry you’re too stubborn or ignorant to acknowledge this. Of course you stay by what you said, you don’t know any better.
“No good games since Alyx” lol what a foolish thing to say. .
Dude headsets aren’t that expensive. You’re talking about Germany like it’s some 3rd world country lol…if you’re too poor boohoo for you but don’t act like VR isn’t big in Germany or that no one hardly owns it.
Everything you’re complaining about has to do with you not being able to afford it or being able to find it…everything else is common issues with any technology and not really widespread issues anyways. Other than the CV1 cables for any headset are easy to get and still made, hardware is no less reliable than any other technology.
It just all sounds so petty. Like you’re just upset and jealous you can’t have VR and much less than you actually don’t like it.
I’M PROJECTING??? Everything you’ve said is either you crying because you’re too poor to afford anything in your 3rd world Germany, apparently, or that the technology is unreliable which is also just more crying from you.
“Buying a vr headset would feel like a waste of money these days.”
If you’re completely brain dead. There’s new headsets coming out from every major player and there are games and mods being released ALL THE TIME.
What are you people even talking about??? You don’t own VR.
We need more Source 2 games.
Looks like a normal shooter now. All the VR obstacles gone now, so the rest of the game will just be an easy game.
Just curious, how are they doing the spherical puzzles in non-VR in terms of controls?
The real interest is to play it in VR.
I know people love to suck this game off like as if it’s their holy grail of gaming but, as some one that was heavily into VR for a number of years leading up to Alyx I thought it was one of the lamest, dated, and overhyped game releases ever.
For me it was a 5-6 out 10 game, max. New Alyx voice actress was lifeless, same with the world around her. Outside the intro you hardly see or talk to anyone…no one exists besides Combine it seems. The VR mechanics are super dated…you can’t jump or melee…in a Half-life game, wtf? The inventory system is horrible in that you can only store one item in slots on your wrists (seriously) like grenades but resin (aka money) and ammo you store in your backpack and can have INFINITE of this. Zero sense. You can’t switch your gun around in your hands freely, you use a weapon select menu instead of just storing them on you…you can’t even physically climb ladders, the game just shoots you up them.
I mean, for it being Valve and them being heavily into VR and once being a pioneer in game physics and mechanics Alyx was very mediocre and lacking in all it’s mechanics and game play elements. It had done absolutely nothing new or even did anything particularly well that even indie games had been doing for years. Games like Lone Echo years before it were just as visually impressive and games like Boneworks around the same time was leaps and bounds beyond Alyx in almost every measure mechanics wise.
Yet people (mostly casuals or newbs) were sitting here saying how it was REVOLUTIONARY, while doing nothing new, and that it was one of the best VR games EVER, if not THE best VR game/game ever made.
Yeah, no. On the plus side visuals were definitely better than most but were still far from perfect and definitely not that best out there. Sound wasn’t bad at all for the most part. I mean really outside these two things, meh, nothing I hadn’t already seen or done.
