Confirmed: Cyberpunk 2077 will not support Ray Tracing on AMD’s GPUs at launch

Earlier this month, NVIDIA stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will not have any proprietary NVIDIA Ray Tracing tech, and should work on all DXR-compatible GPUs. However, Marcin Momot has now confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will not support Ray Tracing on AMD’s latest GPUs at launch.

Yesterday, CDPR released the official Ray Tracing PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077. These RT requirements only listed NVIDIA’s GPUs though. And, when a fan asked about the Ray Tracing requirements for AMD GPUs, Marcin Momot replied by saying that the game will not support RT on AMD at launch.

We seriously don’t know why CD Projekt RED is locking the game’s Ray Tracing effects on NVIDIA’s hardware. Theoretically, these effects should work fine on AMD’s GPUs. After all, we’ve seen this in older games. In fact, AMD itself said that the RX 6000-series RDNA 2 ‘Big Navi’ GPU lineup will support Ray Tracing in existing titles.

My guess is that these Ray Tracing effects are so demanding that they can only run acceptably on both NVIDIA and AMD GPUs with DLSS or Super Resolution. As we know, AMD’s answer to DLSS is not ready yet, so this could be one of the reasons why CD Projekt RED has decided to disable support for RT on AMD’s GPUs. Otherwise, it makes no sense at all to disable them. Unless of course this is a marketing deal, similar to what is happening with Godfall.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases on the PC on December 10th!

          1. and we will remember you as a blind sheep who clearly knows nothing about real, actual raytracing, only what crap nvidia feeds it’s empty brain is enough.

          2. let’s see :
            switzerland 101
            Iran 80
how come you guys have much lower iqs and are clearly backward but you claim to be smarter than me?

          3. your comments are a clear sign of your low IQ. it doesn’t matter where i am from. it is you who can’t defend your original argument, so you started derailing. man you are a serious mo*on. if you were a clever guy, you would use smarter comments to show how smart you are, not to show how dumb i am. see? you are really dumb and hopless.

          4. It still is a gimmick, hey look all those reflections that I’m not going to notice when I’m playing the game and loose performance because of it.

          5. I agree up to a point, it’s still in its inchoate stage, however reflections are not the only benefits of RT, if put to good use, it can enhance the audio, improve shadows, bring GI to the game and do a lot more.

          6. Man….instead RT is the future of gaming!
In 4 or 5 years we’ll have only full path traced games….no rasterization at all!
            I BET MY D**K MAN!

          1. Haha,a loser-in-realisitc-arguments-type kid who his mind capacity is a gtx 960 at max thinks me the same as himself.think outside of the limitation kid.

          2. speaking of mind capacity, do you remember how I guessed you were from Iran? are you telling me you’re not poorest people in the world after venezuela? I mean all it takes is a currency search on google.
average iq in switzerland is 101, iran is probably around 70. go look it up shetskin.

          3. you are the biggest bigot I have ever seen on any website over the past decade, also racist to boot. can’t you, for once, speak your mind without insulting people? or is that too much to ask of a person your age?
we’re all here because we share the same passion not the same nationality

          4. Hey man,he has nothing on his mind but empty claims.he is so hopeless he started insulting my whole country’s people instead of saying something related to the discussed matter!!!

          5. my name is a clear sign of where i am from and i am honored to be an iranian with a very rich history.go learn more about persia. you think you are a clever guy by guessing where i am from by seeing my name, that shows how dumb and narcissist your are.i am not poor and some of my people being poor doesn’t have anything to do with IQ. no matter what your people’s IQ, you are one dumb hopeless mor*n who when can’t keep up with his bullshit claims about ray tracing or whatever,he starts calling other’s people poor or low IQ. go see a doctor and also learn how communicate with people.go learn how to discuss you hopeless dumb a*s so you can defend your claims if your right, but you are NOT.

        1. DLSS 1 was bad, nobody will argue for that. DLSS 2+ is amazing. If you want next gen visuals then you will need DLSS.

Amir, DamZe, sasan mahhami, suekovitsch, BuyHighSellLow and 0oneZero1 all peasants that will have to watch others play Cyberpunk with RTX on 🙂

          1. haha, man you really like blur don’t you?i will go for dlss when it is as sharp as native WITHOUT TAA.otherwise it is next gen blurry image just better than TAA , that’s all.take a look at black ops cold war for example.

          2. I’d rather have a card that didn’t need DLSS, but I intend to play Cyberpunk with everything maxed including RT. You on the other hand can watch some youtube of others playing 🙂

          3. No i can’t tolerate blur wether on dlss, taa, youtube.even before having 4k monitor i used dsr for downsampling.the SHARPNESS and less jaggies was worth it. it is pointless to invest so much on a pc and then blur the image with one effect or another.

          4. DLSS 2.0 sometimes isnt right but most of the time it is and the main problem is that 90%+ of the games still dont support it…… it will just improve in the future and AMD is doing their own version of DLSS.

          5. AMD is hoping to use Microsofts Direct ML to provide a DLSS substitute. It won’t be as good as AMD lacks any dedicated hardware to drive it.

          6. Actually,We are all those who like image sharpness or fidelity over something blurry.a peasant is someone who believes whatever crap he is feed because he knows nothing about reality. so you also better go learn about true ray tracing.what you see in these games is just a gimmic for now and way different from the REAL ONE.go see a movie like avengers ,you will see my meaning.

        2. you either better provide comparison images between native resolution without taa vs dlss or STFU.i don’t care about blurry image wether taa or dlss.go enjoy blurry black ops cold war.

        3. Are you blind or what?
Second iteration of DLSS is better than native temporal aliased images in some games….

      1. DLSS is garbage and none of these raytraced effects are worth the performance hit, and this is coming from an nVidia RTX user.

        1. DLSS looks better than native in a lot of games. Put down the Doritos and mountain dew and do some research before making bogus claims.

          1. Get real.currently ray tracing really sucks specially when you consider how much performance you lose compared to a well done reasterization alternative.

        1. Ray tracing is used for shadows reflections, lighting. It’s how gci is rendered. It’s the final destination for graphics. Grow up.

          1. Wow where did you read this bullsh.t?
I will tell you someting you alredy know. Good graphics dosnt make the game good……
Or you will play god fall all day cuz it have Gaytracing?

          2. Kid,you better know that future is very distant and when it really comes, rasterization will not be a good alternative and every gpu will be TRULY capable of high quality high fps raytracing not just some low quality high fps drop crap when compared with rasterization.

      1. Man you are a fanatic nvidia fanboy.your precious rt sucks for real world use currently.don’t forget that.

    1. If you are willing to accept good news, on PC Gamer they have a review of the first 15 hours in the Night City and in the Badlands. It’s very positive.

  1. Fuqing ray tracing this and ray tracing that. The worse thing to happen to gaming it seems. Everywhere you go you hear this BS as if it’s the Holy Fuqing Grail of gaming.

    1. Ray tracing is the future. Yes, it has caveats presently, but that’s pretty common for any new tech that’s introduced. It’s a bit more severe with ray tracing due to the processing power it demands, meaning it impacts performance a lot.

But this is a good thing for games and gamers. I understand that some people don’t care about it right now, which is fair. Sometimes the differences can be hard to spot as well (especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for). But eventually, over years, we’ll see this being used more and more and it will create better looking games, and be more performant as well.

Ray tracing is hard to do in real time. We’re only seeing the beginning of this, and it will become better and better over time.

It’s not the holy grail of gaming, but it is the holy grail of graphics, including in games. There’s only so many tricks that can be pulled off with rasterization techniques, especially if those have to stay performant as well. Ray tracing is here to take over and actually give us better looking games – something we should all be able to appreciate.

    2. How the fk is Ray Tracing the worse thing to happen to gaming when it’s literally the next evolution in graphics??

Why are there so many morons on this website raging over Ray Tracing?

      1. You and everyone else clearly knows nothing about ACTUAL RAYTRACING. THIS AIN”T IT. you should go do some research and you will see how Nvidia’s last attempt to stay relevant is to bring you an entry level version of a $50k tech to 500-1500 dollar hardware. They should call it FAKE TRACING, not Ray Tracing… because it AINT!!!!

        1. Excellent wording man,ACTUAL raytracing is not this crap nvidia is feeding the sheep.there are a lot of sheep believing every lie they are told.they behave as if we have avengers level CGI in raytraced games!!!

          1. Oh god man I’m so sick and tired of this Fake Traycing Garbage I notice you get alot of $hit for talking the truth about this on here, THAT THEY ALL SHOULD KNOW. So I just got tired and now I’m not putting up with these silly arguments. THIS RUBBISH IS NOT RAY TRACING & people need to chill with the pitchfork.

          2. yeah man telling them the truth makes them upset because they love a sweet lie way more than the bitter truth.

          3. How does that saying go again? “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” Just look at the current climate we are living in. We are at the height at stupidity amongst humans. But those same humans will tell you just how much more advanced we are than our ancestors WHO ACTUALLY paved the way for us to have the right to be stupid. LMAO, Oh The Humans.

      2. This is not true ray tracing. do you have something like avengers or pacific rim in your games in terms of graphics? !i like to have real tracing but let’s be realistic, we are way away from it .i don’t know maybe my son will not have the chance either though i hope i am wrong about not seeing that day.

        1. Yes as nice as it would be to see we have better things to work towards in graphics of gaming right now that’s more attainable. Ray Tracing is nothing more than another glass ceiling for Nvidia. The console people should be most against this Fake Tracing because it will be used as another reaosn why they can’t have steady 60 FPS in their games. The Truth burns though, instead of fighting the lie they turn against you for stating simple facts.

      1. VR is pretty much alive and kicking, I tried it once and really really liked it. had it been more affordable, that’s how I would play all the time. but I understand your point…

        1. It has no games, without games it’s dead. it didn’t bring anything new to the table, quick cash for corporation who made the thing and forgotten, even Sony don’t talk about it anymore.

          1. I trust by “games” you mean triple A titles, which Sony have released several of. Sony’s support of PSVR has been great and ongoing (REVIII). they themselves have been making AAA VR games and AAA exclusives at a similar rate.
also, there are literally a ton of VR games out there which are either indie or AA but by no means are they lackluster or silly. but admittedly, you’ll have to wait another half a generation for it to become mainstream. and it’s also not for everyone, at least not until the tech becomes affordable and more immersive

          2. I meant variaty of games not just AAA games. majority of them are arcade or casual style games with zero depth, even some AAAs are like crappy Disney games. VR won’t change how you play games, hell it even worsen your experience, thats the problem, it’s just visual. Sony pretty much abandoned it’s VR support, nothing new for PS5 and not even a hint.

It was released in 2016, Another half a generation we don’t even remember VR, even as a meme. just like motion controllers, physx, 3D tv etc… right now RT is a trend “oh my god RT is the future”, it will die off as soon as another gimmick goes trending.

          3. it is the future because humans are lazy and anything even remotely convenient has always been of scientific significance to us. VR or any variation of it (AR) is the future because it will bring us one step closer to that dream where we don’t have to get up to do things. I believe in humans’ laziness 😀
as for Sony, you are a bit wrong, I have played the games and they are simply fantastic. Sony’s VR library is quite impressive. you should check it out. but VR at the moment is a more useful device as an educational tool rather than a gaming tool. at least at my place of work where I teach university students how to learn foreign languages in virtual environments. I’ve been having a whale of a time teaching via VR

          4. :)) We are. i agree but not in VR in this shape or form, they will make something new with a new name or a fresh code of paint and try to sell it again but the outcome will be the same.

Well, let’s call it different tastes then, to me all of VR games even the Half Life was below mediocre and look awful. besides Sony itself said they are not going to do anything about VR at least in two years and after that, well they either totally forget it existed or came out with something new to sell and abandon couple years after.

          5. yes the “agree to disagree” approach
            🙂

although, PSVR2 is coming out in two year’s time so , brace yourself 😀

  2. Doesn’t affect me but seriously… they have 3 weeks till the game comes out and it was already finished and ready to go as it is. surely they can get a small team to get it working before release date… THE GAME WENT GOLD OCTOBER 5TH!!!! lazy f**ks LOL

    1. “Gold” doesn’t have to mean finished.
For instance it could have only partially passed certification, which means that it will pass if X, Y and Z non-show stopping bugs are fixed in a day 1 patch.

There’s a whole thing regarding all this certification (for consoles), which plays into the going gold as well.
The last delay of the game is likely due to them not being able to fix the remaining bugs for certification in time for the previous release date, so they had to delay to be sure they could actually release on consoles as well.

    2. At least maybe I could possibly get a gpu that supports ray tracing now. I hope they delay the game till next year so I can play with rtx

    3. the game did NOT go “gold” in october. management decided this over the employees’ heads and CDPR devs found out at the same time the rest of the world did. the managers just decided “game’s done” and then later flip-flopped and delayed again.
the game is also likely NOT coming out in three weeks. what has changed since 2-3 weeks ago when they had to delay? how much work did they get done in this time? do NPCs no longer pop-in and out right next to you? can more than 5 NPCs be rendered at the same time? LOL
game’s a mess and all hands are on deck to release *something* in December. the devs are working overtime from now until a month after release most likely. day one patch will not be enough, there will be “hotfixes” and big patches in the months after release.

      1. Smart thing to do is not to buy the game on release. Wait a few weeks at least and see what player feedback says and what reviews say. If this is truly a massive game even bigger than Witcher 3 as CDPR said it would be then there will probably be a considerable amount of patching to do once the bugs are discovered by early buyers. Even if it means waiting for months players will be getting the best gaming experience for the money that way.

        1. “If this is truly a massive game…”

Looks like it is. The PC Gamer guy said, after 15 hours of gameplay, that he “still only lightly scratched its surface”.

      2. they said the game was done. they just needed more time to port it and make sure it works on every console it’s being released on.

  3. Amd and Nvidia still are quite on the framerate…. Something fishy is going on ..

Let me quote Dr.Malcom from Jurassic Park :
“Oooh! Ahhh! That’s how it always starts. Then later there’s running and screaming.”

  4. In any case it is impossible to play with RT without a DLSS solution, especially with high FPS.
That’s why I’m not currently purchasing a card from AMD until they have a DLSS solution.

    1. the yet to be released 6900XT that “in quotes-will beat the 3090” might “power through it” without DLSS like features

  5. delay it again why just rush into release?!! ray tracing is very important it can sh*t on fps for nothing worth the fps drop. so it is a good reason for more delays if you want!!!. BTW you said the game on pc was complete didn’t you?

  6. I do not think the gains from ray tracing are worth the performance loss from the videos I have watched. Sometimes I cannot even notice the difference and other times I can, but the effects never look natural to me.

  7. The posts on here is proof just how disgusting amd fanboys are, fanboys suck in general but this group in particular takes the cake. They cannot stand innovation when another company does it, but its totally fine when their company comes up with one. Cry that intel is expensive, then when AMD comes out and has prices very similar to intels, its all okay now. Look how much they cry over DLSS, sometimes even demanding reviewers not use the tech in reviews against AMD videocards. AMD fanboys are th worst, they became even worse than what they were going against initially.

        1. It does, it looks good but there is a reason they recommend to use SSD for this even on minimum, to overcome and brute force their engine problems. that missing limbs and bad cases of pop ups on PS4 Pro shows that the game will be slow on HDDs and god knows how buggy it’s going to be on release across all platforms.

          1. Well game wants you to have SSD even on low, PS4 don’t have one and has tons of pop ins etc… looks like engine limitations or game really needs an SSD for reasons unknown.

          2. Well game wants you to have SSD even on low, PS4 don’t have one and has tons of pop ins etc… looks like engine limitations or game really needs an SSD for reasons unknown.

  8. The same people in the comments saying “lol gaytracing just drops framerate” are the same types of people who said “why would i play SM64 at 30fps, when i can play SMW at 60fps, 3Dtarded a$$”

  9. Guys I have a bad feeling this game is going to be really heavy …. I hope it’s not the new Crysis …. I have a 2080 and I hope I can play well at 1440p with RT active …. but I see it tough!
