And it’s that time of the year again. Today we’re letting you vote and decide for yourselves our Comment Section Policy for 2020 and 2021. This poll will run until Sunday (October 11th) and will end at 21:00 GMT.
Do note that in order to minimize any possible spam or attempt to alter the results, we only accept accounts that have at least 60 comments. Accounts that have been created today or last week are not allowed. Duplicate comments are not allowed. We’ll be also deleting all irrelevant/off-topic comments from this story (so that it’s easier to determine which option has won). You can only vote for one option (if your comment has two options, the first one will be the valid one). Also, if you don’t choose a number, your comment will be deleted.
We believe that these requirements/rules will benefit you, our readers. After all, if you cared for our Comment Policy these past years, you will undoubtedly have more than 60 comments, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of voting for something you are not participating in?
This new Comment Section Policy will take effect on October 11th and will last for one year. In 2021 we’ll have a new poll for a new Comment Policy.
Here are all the available choices:
- Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers: Our readers can comment on anything they want. They can leave political or racist comments, and they can insult other members (who can defend themselves via the Comment section. Moderators are not required to protect them and they can leave all users to fight each other). Spammers will not be allowed and will be banned, no matter what.
- Users can talk about anything other than racist stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed: Our readers can talk about anything as long as it’s not racist or personal attacks. Moderators are free to delete comments THEY feel are racist or personal attacks. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
- Users can talk about anything other than racist or political stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed: Our readers can talk about anything as long as it’s not racist, political or personal attacks. Moderators are free to delete comments THEY feel are under those categories. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
- Only PC-gaming related stuff: Our readers can talk only about PC gaming stuff. As such, they can’t share off-topic videos (such as music videos), talk about the weather, earthquakes or other disasters (like tsunamis for example), talk about history, or talk about all the other aforementioned categories. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
UPDATE: Results
We had 132 valid comments and here are the results.
- Option #1 – 91 votes
- Option #2 – 20 votes
- Option #3 – 11 votes
- Option #4 – 10 votes
It’s pretty clear that most of you want “Unrestrained Policy”, so that’s our new Comment Policy until October 2021. For those that could not meet our “60 comments” requirement, you can start commenting and participating so that you can vote for our next poll in 2021.
Regarding the removal of word censoring, unfortunately, we can’t do that. This is a Google guideline and we won’t be removing it. The only way via which we can remove it is if – and when – we remove all ads from our site. Our Patreon campaign had such a stretch goal, however, that campaign is nowhere closing to hitting that goal.

John is the founder and Editor in Chief at DSOGaming. He is a PC gaming fan and highly supports the modding and indie communities. Before creating DSOGaming, John worked on numerous gaming websites. While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”

Option 2. Though I don’t think mods should be deleting comments simply due to the mods being part of the problem in many cases.
It’s a gaming site, so 4.
1 always
I’d go with 2
best is 4 this site is always for pc gaming we dont need politic stuff bla bla bla
Option 4
1.
Keep it 1 and you’ll be one of the only places left that allows freedom of speech.
this britbong knows

I’d kindly appreciate if you remove the swearing moderation. I mean, people here swear a lot, so I don’t see what’s the point of having it. Anyways, I vote option 1.
1 always
Policy 1
I’m all about unconstrained free speech. If someone’s being an @$$, I can choose to block them. Quite frankly, I find it funny when people get excessively mad and go off on tirades.
I guess I’ll go with No 3 but certain political topics could be allowed when relevant.
2
There’s no place for racist stuff in 2020
2020 is the new 1920
Option 1. Freedom any day
Option 1 of course!
If one can’t stand different opinions on a site in the vastity of the internet, then this one shouldn’t be allowed on the internet to begin with.
Let them fight!
1.
1.
Option 1, we already have enough censorship as it is. And F#ck spammers.
Option 1, as always.
1. Even when I ONLY comment on topic, I also believe in freedom.
2. People should be able to express their opinion without stooping to childish name-calling and the such.
1 is always good but i vote for number 2 some people are extremely toxic for no reason.
Sadly Dsogaming’s comments sections have become a platform for some terrible things, racist, irrelevant and full of hate for everything.
I will go with 2
I know some people here keep saying use block buttons, but the amount of time I hesitate sharing articles from this website anywhere is due to the comment section. It sucks, because
Dso genuinely has some of the very first information available on PC games.
Number 1
I vote for 1, but I’m not sure that’s the best way to go if you want more people to be part of the comments section, because too many people here are always going on and on complaining about SJW stuff. I hate the wokeness in games and entertainment as well, but doesn’t mean people have to keep saying the same thing over and over again.
Option 1
Options 2 or 3.
DSO gaming will never be taken seriously as long as you’re a cesspool for racist and bigots. You have an opportunity to be better here.
I have to go with 1 as well.
1: Censorship always stifles the candid and sincere. Moderators always become power-crazed.
once again 1.
It doesn’t discourage trolls to attack people and even if you bock such trolls they can still post angry comments towards you. I rarely comment here on DSOG lately becasue comments section with current rules only attract angry trolls. Very few people here just want to talk about games and technology.
Number 1
Option 1, it clearly shows you with whom you engage in a discussion.
I thought we already went to thru it just keep it 1
Number 1
#1
Option 1. I can go to gematsu or something if i want controlled discussion/comments…
Option 1
Considering almost everyone that hasn’t voted 1 before is already gone, this time i’ll go mainstream and vote 1 too myself.
Better to Keep the Number One (1) as the Comment policy this will protect the Freedom of Speech. Thanks for letting us to choose.
John!!!! Highlight this topic so that others dont miss the voting…. this needs to be the main topic during voting time.
I choose option 2 (hard decision)
Normally I would go for option 1 because im naturally for freedom of speech, no “borders”, open minded etc but lately, DSOG is becomming a little bit tooooo toxic, all the repeated SJW drama…. its boring to read all the things every single time, each day even If I agree with some of them/sometimes….I dont know, its just boring and time consuming, comments should be more on-topic. Also, most of them from that category dont contribute anything meaningful to the site, they just go way off topic and attack others even if they are right at times, its just childish.
I guess…. pick your poison.
Boring to read? And for me it’s boring to read about “diversity inclusivity pride blm” in every damn major game nowdays.
2 freedom of speech is important but being an as*wipe for no reason is not necessary.
For no reason? Really?
i’ve seen some people attacking other people on this site for no reasons
example:
comment:
“i really like this game”
reply:
“because you are a dumb (insert racial slur here)piece of sh*t”
thats what i call being an as*hole for no reason.
Never experienced any racism in the comments section of this site so will go with option 1.
Option 1. If I wanted any other option I could go to any other site filled with effeminate men that cry about everything.
1 would be nice but with no idiotic racist stuff. Still rather have that then no ability to disagree in number 2.
Choice 3
You shouldn’t even discuss it. Option 1 is the best. Freedom of speech is the most important thing of all.
i vote for unrestricted, option 1
Ey John. I am here cuz i can say what ever the F i want. And its a good thing.
Dont F this up pls.
Thx ma nibba
1
3 or at least 2. Don’t see any reason for allowing personal attacks and wonder what DSO see in allowing it.
I’ll say 3. I don’t want this place to turn into OAG 2.0.
Number 1 all the way. If you need Safe Space turn off your PC and go for a walk.
Option 1 as always
1.
1 and remove the profanity filters too
Between 1 and 2.
I don’t want the comment section to end up like OAG comment section. Which was worse than a crappy gas station in a sh**ty part of town badly cleaned up toilet. The neonazis retards are acting exactly like the ctrl-left, and we need to gatekeep the comment section to avoid what happened to OAG, and avoid disqus booting dsogaming.
1.
Not just a little “check” next to 1., but a big fat one with underscore and a lot exclamation marks.
If you can’t handle other people’s opinions and/or personal attacks etc. on the fcking internet, don’t fcking use it. Simple as that.
Option 1.
Freedom Of Speech is always a plus.
2.
I don’t see why would anyone want this site to turn in to another OAG.
Edit : I don’t see why would we want to personally attack anyone. Usually it’s only the trolls and single digit IQ posters doing it and it contributes nothing to the site
I don’t see why wouldn’t anyone want this site to turn in to another OAG since original is gone.
Oh? Haven’t followed it since early summer i think
#1 hasn’t failed us before.
Option 3.
opt 1
Option 3
1. The team is doing a great job providing info and allowing readers to share their thougths and opinions freely (yeah, having some words blocked is a pain in the butt, but i understand why and you get used to it). There’s even regular interaction between authors and commentor, which i found wholesome to say the least.
Keep doing what you do, sadly there’s no many sites like these with this freedom out there.
Option 4
Option 2
#1 is the obvious choice.
BUT i know you want to go with #2, so remove “anything” from it more so since you’ll be going about it with “feelings” and most know where that leads.
Racism is a natural thing and the ones that want to make it a “bad” thing are the most racis of the bunch. Stereotypes are not only funny but as real as water.
And don’t you dare tell me there is at least an episode of South Park you like.
No sp*c, n!gga, whitey, hand rubber, ch*nk, una bomber from arabia, etc should be “offended” by being called as such because that is a reality.
Plus all those groups have at least one “word” that they used to described each other but that for some reason when someone else uses it is racis, that’s the kind of bs and insanity that the insanes like to foster.
A dog does not get offended by being called a dog, only the most insane “owners” do on behalf of the dog. Also call me when a giraffe eats a Lion just because he is a Lion.
The one thing that should not be allowed is the insanity the pos that
don’t like “personal attacks” and “racismus” are all about.
TDS is real btw and a good chunk of game devs have it while another are a bunch of commie/socialist larpers. They are the ones bringging “politics” to the table, the ones that made it NOT about the games in the 1st place.
People around here care about the games, but it can’t be avoided that when the poor sufferes of TDS and the larpers that work in games are all about reeeing and catering to the other insanes, to not comment about it.
If something should defenitelly be banned is anything ralated to Twitter.
I hope i showed you you can be a polite racis pos and go with #1.
Option 3, not like it matters, I straight up don’t read the comments anymore. DSOG has one of the most toxic comment section, but it is a good news source.
It’s not even good news service anymore. And the comments only got worse because of few toxic cuckwingers.
Option 1 with no language censoring
2, there are always people who need some education about the way they wrote personal opnions, even in games sites like theese. I think that you can always say anything you want but keep in between some lines it isn’t loose your freedom
4, though 1 is already the winner.
I vote for 1.
I would honestly prefer 2. I don’t understand why people would want to sling racist comments and personal attacks if we can actually foster a culture of discussion going forward.
If we want to foster a climate of healthy debate, discussion and hopefully objective reporting, this is the step to take to guide us in that direction.
I have been following this site for years now, and I have seen a gradual tone and change in the comments section as it has become more toxic, and often more than not, de-evolves into personal attacks and goes off topic as well.
So I’ve deleted more comments than the comments that are now valid. Do you guys even read the damn article? Hell, I even bolded the requirements/rules. Stop leaving off-topic comments and stop replying to others, simply vote. Is that too much to ask? (don’t reply on this message. All replies and all off-topic comments will be deleted).
So you are censoring comments about non-censoring comments? This is getting hysterical John.
I vote for option 2.
option 4. This DSOG not DSO anything under the sun. Also ban BubandBob for being gutter trash.
i vote for 1
Vote 4
Prickly freedom of speech. 1
Two.
Option 1 i guess just so I don’t have to censor profanity which is just because that is how I talk. If there are any real racist/hate people… I can just block them myself so whatever.
Side note: I def read the articles. Keep up the great work. Best gaming site on the net imo!! Altho even giving the option for hate and racism blows my fn mind. This shouldn’t even be an option. Lets be good humans. Set an example. That kind of stuff is disgusting. Do you really want your site to just be seen and known as a toxic hell hole? I would prefer option 4 but i’ll go with 1 because we do have to option to block people. Even the one’s that come to say every single damn game is SJW bs… LOOOL
You either support Freedom of Speech at 100% (which implies having to listen to ideas you don’t like or you consider dumb), or you don’t, and you are being Partial.
There are more than enough Mainstream Social Media Networks, that are completely biased.
I vote Option 1, even if there are more than enough, Marxist-like tactics to persecute someone based on an opinion, throughout group lynching (via herd-behavior), while enunciating plenty of Argumentative Fallacies (which would support option 3).
But even then, you don’t know who watches over the Moderator’s moderation, nor their inclinations towards other users.
#1
1.
I’ll vote for 1 again as it’s the right thing for freedom, But option 4 is becoming more tempting
each year with the amount of stupid comments going completely off topic.
With all of the woke/SJW/political stuff that is now filtering out into games/movies as well, It’s important to be able to discuss/argue these things that may include all those issues whether people like it or not, Although personal attacks such as death threats to family members and individuals shouldn’t be tolerated at all!
1. Because with 2., you never know what qualifies as “racist” these days.
1 and done
1.
1.
Number 1 and 2 is a great combination in my opinion…Personal attack and racist stuff is lame and an admittance of defeat , keep on the freedom as long as it talks about the subject in the article. im more into 2 actuallty, but Spammers also needs to squashed
#1
From 2010-2021 policy OPTION 1
#1
Option #1, as always.
Option 3 because I’m really tired of the omnipresence of politics.
1….or you’re dead to me.
1 all day i dont give a duck about someone feeling its internet we allow everyone as long someone not do physical hurt people in irl
#1, obviously.
In my opinion, most comments are not extreme and people behave well, so you shouldn’t worry that giving too much freedom will mean more racist comments, etc. In fact, I don’t even care when I see something racist, if that’s the price to pay to allow freedom of speech. Hell, even I am considered racist sometimes. lol
Anyway, #1. This is one of the most important reasons I choose DsoGaming as my first choice when I check gaming news.
2
Coming here and seeing morons who literally only use racist language in every comment they make is one of the only downsides to this website. I don’t even really care about it but the excessive use of it like an edgy 12 year old shouldn’t be allowed.
I also think that another option should be added that restricts or doesn’t allow racist language but allows personal attacks. As someone who served in the military I don’t believe everyone deserves freedom of speech if they are only going to use it to be an idiot.
1. It still is one of few the places where people still have freedom of speech. But some bot/spam trolls should be looked at, sp4ctro has probably 4 active accounts just for this website…
I have to go with option 1.
I love free speech first amendment should really be the policy of all websites.
Option 3
1. F**k your feelings.
Option 2.
Option 1.
1. Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers.
I choose 1
1. I don’t care about anyone’s feelings, including my own. Grow a skin. The world is not sunshine and rainbows. Disqus allows you to block users for a reason. This is the reason.
1 if you’re not a p*ssy. If you don’t like a comment you can always hide it or block the user. ?
Still want 2 but allowing personal attacks. People talking sh*t about each other should be fine but open racist sh*t will only push people away. Criticizing SJW bullsh*t is fine but stepping to the level of racism is dumb.
Ill go with option 1 again.
I vote for option 1.
1 Free speech without spammers
1. Because free speech matters.
#1
Let the spice (salt) flow
1
Disqus allows every individual to block idiots.
?????
1,
1. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. Even if it offends some blue-haired whale.
1 if it means I don’t have to censor swears/curse words. Otherwise if not… then 4
3. This is the most stupid thing I’ve ever seen. Why’d you want to allow racism and personal attacks? Very toxic. (Also people have NO idea what freedom of speech is. It is NOT being allowed to be a tw*t on the internet.)
“Why’d you want to allow racism and personal attacks? Very toxic.”
So we can tell plebs like yourself, to f**k off. See? Freedom of speech. Don’t like it? Block me. See if I care.
Learn what Freedom of Speech is about and you just might not sound so stupid, idiot.
Hahahaha, cool. You have a nice life now. Don’t scratch that thin skin you have there.
Bye-bye.
And who defines what’s Tw@t and what to do to be one?
Ye. That’s what freedom means.
1
Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers
1
I’ll always defend the freedom of speech.
Once again evil prevail
Great and happy with the result. 🙂
Oh so the option 1 from last year (total unrestricted even spammers are allowed) is gone……
But spammers aren’t getting kicked anyway so whatever.
No it’s not.
For those who didn’t vote 1, you can all svck this d!ck now!
For those who didn’t vote 1, you can all svck this d*ck now!
4.
