Obsidian will reveal its new game next week at the Video Games Award 2018, won’t feature micro-transactions

Geoff Keighley has revealed that Obsidian will reveal its brand new sci-fi RPG at the Video Games Award 2018 next week. Although we don’t know much about it, we do know that it will be in third-person and will be published by Private Division (meaning that it should theoretically be a multi-platform title). Obsidian’s Roby Atadero on video-game bugs: “Generally you’re going to have a lot of bugs.”

During his presentation at the University of California Riverside, Roby Atadero – Senior Programmer at Obsidian – shared some really interesting details about the bugs that players encounter in most modern-day games. Atadero basically confirmed what most of us already know by now; that most developers do not have enough time to address the majority of bugs as publisher want to meet their deadlines. Microsoft has acquired Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment

And it appears that the rumours were true after all. Microsoft has just announced that it has acquired both Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment. These two PC studios are now part of Microsoft’s first party studios so it will be interesting to see what games they’ll be developing for Microsoft’s platforms. Pillars of Eternity 2 has flopped really hard, sold only 110K copies worldwide until September 2018

It appears that the sequel to Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, has sold poorly. According to reports, the game has only sold 110K copies worldwide until September 2018. And while the WRPG market is a niche one, this number feels really low and may explain the rumours that surfaced about Microsoft purchasing Obsidian. Obsidian Entertainment, in partnership with Versus Evil, have announced the launch of the next free DLC pack for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The free DLC, titled ‘Rum Runner’s Pack’ is among several free DLC packs which are planned to add more content to the game over the coming months. First Pillars of Eternity 2 beta patch released, fixes mouse issues and black screen issues on Mac

Obsidian Entertainment has released the first beta patch for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. According to the release notes, this patch fixes some mouse functionality issues, packs various VO fixes to the Vox Machina voice sets and Credit fixes, and fixes some shader issues that could cause black screens on Mac’s with Intel integrated graphics cards.
