Intel recently announced its Comet Lake-S series of processors for the Desktop in i9, i7, i5 and i3 flavors. It has come to our attention (via TechPowerUp) that some of the Intel Comet Lake Core i5 processors are not exactly the same as other SKUs, meaning the “silicon” beneath the heat spreader can be different based on the chip it is manufactured. Intel drops the fancy “Dodecahedron” design packaging of the Core i9-9900K processor
In a strange turn of events, INTEL recently issued a product change notice (PCN) announcing that it is discontinuing the fancy “dodecahedron” packaging of its previous gen flagship Core i9-9900K processor. This translucent “twelve-sided” package debuted with the Core i9-9900K CPU as a direct response to AMD’s elaborate Threadripper lineup packaging. Rumor: INTEL’s next-gen upcoming CPU architectures to feature significant IPC uplift over the current “Skylake” architecture
INTEL has been using the same iteration of the” 14nm” FinFET process node with the Skylake Architecture for many years.
