It appears that KyTyPS5 has almost hit the third major milestone for emulating Demon’s Souls Remake. In just one day, we went from 2 FPS to 18 FPS. And now, its latest build can run Demon’s Souls Remake at 30 FPS, though there are numerous drops below that framerate target.
Now, the reason I say that this is the third major milestone is quite simple. The first milestone was booting the game. The second was to go in-game. And now, the third is to get to at least 30 FPS.
But anyway, YouTube’s PSXTech has shared the following video. In this video, we get to see Demon’s Souls Remake hitting 30 FPS on KyTyPS5.
As you will see, there is a particular area in which we get 30 FPS. While moving the camera around, we get drops to 18 FPS. So, this isn’t a stable 30 FPS experience. I also see numerous framepacing issues. As such, it will take a while to get a stable 30 FPS.
Sadly, PSXTech did not share the specs of the PC they used. So, we don’t know what CPU and GPU were used to capture this gameplay footage.
I know some people will say that this is not impressive because it is due to AI vibe coding. But you know what? I don’t care. If AI can lead to these huge gains in emulation, then more developers should use it. I’m not saying they should let AI do all the work. They can use AI as an assist tool and then fix any mistakes or “hallucinations” it may make. At the end of the day, AI is a tool. Devs or modders can use it to speed up their work and improve their projects.
It’s funny because this kind of progress would have been impossible a few years ago. I mean, just look at what it took to get RPCS3 to its current state. The same goes for shadPS4. It’s really impressive what these teams have managed to achieve over the years. At the same time, that does not make what is happening with KyTyPS5 any less impressive.
From what I know, the build that PSXTech used is not yet available on GitHub. So, right now, you can only experiment with its older version, which you can download from here. As soon as this new build comes out, I’ll be sure to let you know.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
