Twitter/X user “j0nathan” appears to have leaked a screenshot from the canceled Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. This screenshot features the Prince himself and gives us a glimpse of what he would have looked like.
The leaker has also claimed that the remake was 99% complete before its cancellation. So, I’m curious now to see whether someone will leak it to the public. This has happened in the past, so I won’t be surprised if it happens again. For instance, the famous E3 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever was leaked back in 2022. Or how about Starfox 2 for the SNES?
For those who did not know, in September 2020, Ubisoft officially announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, its first screenshots left all Prince of Persia fans disappointed. The game did not look good. As a result, Ubisoft decided to delay the game until March 18th, 2021.
Things went downhill in 2021. In February 2021, Ubisoft announced that the game was delayed indefinitely. But then, in June 2021, Ubisoft stated that the remake was targeting a 2022 release date. To the surprise of no one, the game did not come out in 2022.
On top of that, in May 2023, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was still in a conception stage. But then, in June 2024, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was targeting a 2026 release date.
And this brings us to 2026. Just a few days ago, Ubisoft announced the cancellation of the Prince of Persia Remake. Ubisoft claimed that the game did not reach the level of quality its fans deserve. Thus, instead of releasing a mediocre product, the publisher decided to cancel it.
Now, as with all rumors, I suggest taking this screenshot with a grain of salt. It does appear to be legit, but with the rise of AI, you never know what may be or may not be a legit leak. For what it’s worth, j0nathan has not caught sharing fake leaks. Also, to avoid any legal issues, we won’t be hosting the leaked screenshot on our server. As such, there is a chance Ubisoft may soon take down this tweet.
If the game was 99% complete, we might also get a leaked video in the future. And, you know what? I’d love to see what the game looked like. I’m just curious to see why Ubisoft has canceled it if it was almost finished.
But what about the Prince? Does he look like the original Prince from Sands of Time? Nope, he doesn’t. He at least looks Persian, and that’s one positive thing about his design. However, I’m sure a lot of people will be disappointed by how he looks. So, in a way, you can thank Ubisoft for canceling it.
