Nixxes Software has released Patch 4 for the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and shared its complete changelog. So, let’s see what this new update brings to the table.
Patch 4 has performance improvements in areas with sand. Moreover, it brings a number of CPU and GPU performance optimizations for when using Ray Tracing. As such, the game should run better when you enable those effects.
Update 4 also addresses a bug that caused ray-traced shadows of Symbiote Nests to persist after they were cleared. Plus, it fixex a bug where ray-traced shadows caused excessive lighting in some cases. It also resolves a bug with ray-raced reflections that caused characters to appear darker when Ambient Occlusion was set to XeGTAO.
And that’s not all. The game should now be more stable on the PC. Nixxes has fixed a crash that could occur when quitting the game quickly after starting it. It also fixes a crash that could occur on quadcore processors when enabling raytracing.
For what it’s worth, I haven’t tested this patch on the older NVIDIA GPUs. As I wrote in my PC Performance Analysis, the game had some really low minimum framerates on the NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti and RTX 3080. This could be due to the GPU DirectStorage implementation, though I’m not 100% certain about it. On newer GPUs, the game can run smoothly. Furthermore, NVIDIA added support for MFG X4 via the NVIDIA App, and you can find our impressions of it here.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.
