Although the Japanese company did not reveal when the demo will hit the Internet, we do know that it will be coming on Xbox LIVE, PSN, Nintendo eShop and Steam. Discord Games announced today the release of an updated demo for Chasm, a 2D action-RPG platformer currently in development for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game features procedurally-generated Metroid-style dungeons and authentic 16-bit pixel art (demo is available via the Kickstarter page). Discord is raising funds for development of Chasm through Kickstarter, and is currently 65% funded with 16 days left. The updated demo contains overhauled graphics, two new game modes, mappable keyboard controls, fan translation support, tweaks and bug fixes. Yesterday, EA announced that it has reduced its workforce in various locations, with rumors suggesting that around 100 employees were laid off. This announcement came after a rumor that its EA Partners program will be shut down, and despite EA not commenting on that front, the company has closed two other studios (PopCap Vancouver and Quicklime Games). Hidden Path Entertainment announced that it has raised the funds needed to make Defense Grid 2. On July 10, 2012 Hidden Path Entertainment launched its Kickstarter Campaign to fund new content for its highly acclaimed tower defense game, Defense Grid – The Awakening, and potentially a sequel for the loved title. 2K and 2K Marin, makers of BioShock 2, announced today that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be released on August 20th, 2013 in North America and August 23, 2013 internationally on PC, X360 and PS3. Even though this new XCOM game will retain the style of its earlier version, it has abandoned its first person perspective and is now described as a third-person tactical shooter. GameInformer has released some new screenshots for the the new Batman game, Batman: Arkham Origins. These first screenshots showcase the Dark Knight fighting some bad guys, as well the main villains of the game: Deathstroke and Black Mask. Activision announced that the Uprising DLC pack for the PC and PS3 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be made available on May 16th. This pack includes four new multiplayer maps, plus “Mob of the Dead,” a bone-chilling new Zombies experience that takes players to the notorious prison island of Alcatraz. Dead Island: Riptide releases tomorrow and we’ve prepared a Performance Analysis that covers – naturally – its PC version. Dead Island: Riptide is powered by the Chrome 5 Engine, an engine that powered Call of Juarez: The Cartel and the first Dead Island game. And since it’s the same engine, it will be interesting to compare the original Dead Island with Riptide, and see whether or not Techland has addressed some of its issues.
