Well, Prince of Persia fans, were you expecting Ubisoft to shadowdrop the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake in January? Not only did that not happen, but the French company has officially canceled it.
Let’s take things from the beginning. In September 2020, Ubisoft officially announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, its first screenshots left all Prince of Persia fans disappointed. The game did not look good. As a result, Ubisoft decided to delay the game until March 18th, 2021.
Things went downhill in 2021. In February 2021, Ubisoft announced that the game was delayed indefinitely. But then, in June 2021, Ubisoft stated that the remake was targeting a 2022 release date. To the surprise of no one, the game did not come out in 2022.
On top of that, in May 2023, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was still in a conception stage. But then, in June 2024, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was targeting a 2026 release date.
And this brings us to 2026. Since June 2024, we haven’t heard anything at all. So, it’s no surprise that the remake has been canceled.
Ubisoft claims that they were not able to reach the level of quality its fans deserve. Therefore, instead of releasing a low-quality title, the publisher decided to cancel it.
The fact that Ubisoft has not been able to remaster an old game is hilarious in itself. I mean, how hard is it to remaster the textures and the 3D models? That’s everything the game needed. Again, this was supposed to be a remaster and not a full from the ground up remake.
In my opinion, this proves that this remake was a game that had a very low budget. And, instead of investing extra money in it, Ubisoft decided to cancel it.
Furthermore, this may give us a glimpse at the future of the Splinter Cell Remake. Ubisoft revealed the Splinter Cell Remake in 2021. That was five years ago. And, since then, we haven’t gotten anything at all. Well, except for some concept art. So, I won’t be surprised if Ubisoft announces its cancellation.
