GSC GameWorld has just announced that the remastered trilogy of the first STALKER games, STALKER: Legends of the Zone, will come out on PC on May 20th. To celebrate this announcement, the team also shared a new trailer, which you can find below.
STALKER: Legends of the Zone has enhanced lighting with godrays, screen space reflections, and global illumination for a more immersive atmosphere. It also comes with upscaled textures and detailed 3D models for NPCs, weapons, and environments. Players can also expect advanced shaders for water and wetness effects, paired with upgraded skyboxes for a more dynamic world. Moreover, there will be 4K pre-rendered cinematics and improved weapon FOV for better combat visibility.
The trilogy also comes with some PC-only features. For instance, it will support Steam Workshop. As such, players will have easy access to a vast library of user-generated mods. The game will also have cloud saves. Plus, it will be optimized for Steam Deck.
Now I have to be honest here. This official remaster does not look as impressive as some of the STALKER mods I’ve seen. I’m not saying it looks bad. However, it cannot compete with STALKER Anomaly or STALKER Complete Mod. At least in my opinion.
It’s also worth noting that these remasters won’t have any co-op support. I’m mentioning this because there is a Co-Op Mod for STALKER: Call of Pripyat. So, it’s kind of a bummer that the devs have not added such a feature to these older STALKER games.
All in all, I was kind of expecting something a bit more from these remasters. If you’ve never played a modded version of STALKER, these remasters will appear great to you. But for those who have played heavily modded versions of the older STALKER games, this feels like a nothing-burger.
Let’s at least hope that the trilogy will come out in a polished state. Otherwise, it will be a nightmare to fix it as the team should be busy right now with STALKER 2. In May or June, we might get a new patch for STALKER 2 to improve its A-Life 2.0 system. This will be 6-7 months after the game’s launch.
The devs have also shared the official PC requirements for this trilogy. PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core i3-7100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X with 8GB and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX960 or AMD Radeon RX 560. With this kind of PC system, you’ll be able to run these remasters at 1080p/Low Settings with 60FPS.
For gaming at 1080p/Max Settings with 60FPS, you’ll need an Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580.
Enjoy the trailer!
