Rumor: Prey 2 reboot sequel might be in development at Arkane Austin

It appears that Prey 2 could be in development in the form of a sequel reboot at Arkane Studios but with the collaboration of Human Head Studios, the original team of the series. Arkane Austin is allegedly working on a new project.

It could be a sequel to the 2017 Prey with the original Prey developers also involved as well. In a recent interview with the Spanish website Vandal, Harvey Smith who is the designer of the Dishonored and Deus Ex series confirmed that Arkane’s Austin, the Texas-based studio, is making a new game.

On the other hand, Arkane Lyon studio is working on Deathloop. Harvey Smith confirmed to Vandal of being committed to a whole new project in development at the Texas studio, while the French branch of Arkane is developing Deathloop, which is coming to PC in May.

To quote Smith’s statement:

“Raph stayed in Austin and worked at Prey with Ricardo Bare and Susan Kath and the people I’m working with now. At the end of Dishonored 2 I went back to Austin. I’m not in Deathloop , I’m in something else, working with the guys who made Dishonored and Prey,”

As you may already know, Arkane Austin studio worked on the original Prey reboot. Roundhouse worked on the original Prey game, and on the Prey 2 sequel that got cancelled.

Also, when asked whether he would like to work on Deathloop as well, Smith said:

“I think it would be very exciting. I’ve played a fairly early version of the game and now I’m looking forward to playing a more advanced one and giving you some feedback but the spirit of those guys, their dedication to the gameplay and player movements, to the art, to the scenarios… I think it’s going to be something fascinating to watch.”

Human Head Studios, the original Prey team, was shut down in 2019 but Bethesda offered all its members a job, effectively founding Roundhouse Studios. Also, Microsoft now owns Bethesda and all of its subsidiaries, so it would be interesting to see how things are going to pan out.

Stay tuned for more!
