id Software’s RAGE goes free-to-play until Sunday

I know, I know. A lot of us were disappointed with RAGE. id Software dropped the ball with this title as the company experimented with its megatexture tech (and wanted to hit 60fps on current-gen consoles). However, can you say no to free stuff? Of course you can but we bet that a lot of you wanted to give this title a go (but didn’t due to its various tech issues). Well, this weekend you actually can get a taste of it.

id Software and Bethesda announced that RAGE is free-to-play until Sunday 1PM Pacific Time. Those interested can download it from Steam, though be warned that it’s really huge (over 18GB).

RAGE is set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, leaving a ravaged world behind. You emerge into this vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and the Authority – an oppressive government regime that has a special interest in you in particular.
