CES 2021 has been cancelled due to COVID-19, and will now be an all-digital event next year

The Consumer Technology Association has just now announced that the 2021 edition of the International CES event has been cancelled.  This is the latest event which has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the trade association group said, next year’s consumer electronics show will be presented as an ‘all-digital’ online experience.

Due to the recent resurgence of Covid-19 cases within the US over the past two months, things are not the same as before, and the association has decided to cancel the on-site CES event. The CES 2021 event show floor will also be a live product showcase, which can be viewed online. The CES event was originally scheduled to take place between January 6-9, 2021.

CTA said that it would announce more details for the virtual CES 2021 later on. The 2021 digital convention and expo will be a highly ‘personalized experience’, and will include talks from several tech innovators/companies, some news announcements, along with some new product demos. Despite fears of the ongoing pandemic, the 2020 edition of CES actually drew more than 170,000 visitors and over 4,400 official exhibitors.

“Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it’s just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person,” CTA president/CEO Gary Shapiro said in a statement.
