Capcom has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Resident Evil 7

Now here is something really interesting. While Resident Evil 2 Remake came out with, from what looks like, a new version of Denuvo, Capcom has removed this controversial anti-tamper tech from Resident Evil 7.

Although we don’t know the reasons behind this removal, Resident Evil 7’s Steam store page has also been updated in order to reflect this change (similarly to Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 7’s page listed Denuvo on the right).

Still, this is great news for those that wanted to play Resident Evil 7 but were put off by the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Not only that, but it will be interesting – at least for some – to test the Denuvo and the Denuvo-free versions of the game (though I don’t expect any major performance differences between them as this particular game wasn’t CPU-bound).

From the looks of it, Capcom is using Denuvo only to secure the sales of its games for their first year and is willing to remove it afterwards. As such, it will be interesting to see whether Capcom will remove Denuvo from both Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5 in 2020.

Have fun!
