YouTube’s ‘CryZENx’ has just released a new demo for his amazing Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake project in Unreal Engine 5. As the title suggests, this new demo lets you experience Zora’s River.

Now what’s cool here is that unlike other UE5 projects, this one is free to download. Not only that, but Nintendo has not made any attempts to shut it down. This is a pleasant surprise. I mean, this is Nintendo we’re talking about. I don’t know how CryZENx has been able to avoid Nintendo’s hammer. So, kudos to him.

As I’ve said before, this is one of the best fan remakes of a classic game in UE5. Contrary to other fan remakes, this one has proper gameplay mechanics. As such, players can explore the environments and fight several enemies. They can also use their ocarina, break objects, collect items, and speak to NPCs. Not only that but this fan remake of this classic N64 Zelda game has in-engine cut-scenes and an inventory system.

This free demo version is locked at 30FPS. I’ve downloaded it and it only lets you play the Zora River area. CryZENx has a 60FPS version of his mod, however that version is behind a paywall. My guess is that the paid version will also have all of the other chapters that the modder has recreated. Plus, the free version suffers from some MAJOR artifacts. Everything looks noisy. It’s better than nothing but I’m almost certain a lot of people will immediately dislike it.

Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, we recommend trying out these other free fan-made demos. You can grab a Superman UE5 Demo, a Halo 3: ODST Remake, and a Spider-Man UE5 Demo. There’s also a fan-made version of STALKER in Unreal Engine 5. If you love old-school FPS games, you should check out this remake of the classic FPS Blood in Epic’s engine. Don’t also forget the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s Halo level in UE5 or this free Attack on Titan game. And then we have the Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake in UE5.

Owners of high-end GPUs can also try these two tech demos. The first one features a Witcher-like environment. The second shows off a Rome Italian Town. Last month, we also shared a demo of King’s Field 2 in UE5. Oh, let’s also not forget this Cyberpunk/Blade Runner-inspired demo. Finally, we have The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Reimagined in Unreal Engine 5, a remake of Flappy Bird, a demo for Need for Speed: Underground 2, and a Diablo 2 Remake Demo. They all look awesome, so be sure to give them a try.
