In September 2026, we informed you about an amazing terrain deformation mod for Skyrim Special Edition. And a couple of days ago, modder ‘Asciim0v’ released a similar mod for Fallout 4. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
Dynamic Terrain Deformation adds footprints and trails in sand, mud, and snow. Your companions, settlers, raiders, and creatures can leave their own marks, too. Each type of ground reacts in a different way. Footprints in mud and snow can last for ten minutes or more. Marks in dirt last for a few minutes. Grass and gravel fill back in faster, while sand covers your tracks in about half a minute. Rock and roads do not hold footprints.
Snow gets even more changes. You can leave deep tracks as you walk through it, while your feet kick snow into the air. The mod also works with popular winter mods, such as Winter Overhaul, Seasons Change, and Winter Redone. It can spot snow on its own, so you do not need a special patch. It also stops deep snow from forming under roofs and other covered areas.
The world reacts to heat, fire, and blood, too. Campfires, burning barrels, candles, and flares melt nearby snow. Robot jets can burn the ground, and the heat from Codsworth’s jets can leave marks on the land. Blood can melt into snow, while bodies can sink into it. Falling snow can also cover bodies over time.
Combat has a big effect on the ground. Grenades, mines, and missiles can leave craters and clear snow around the blast. Bullets can leave small holes in dirt, while miniguns can make larger ones. Lasers can burn the ground, and flames from blasts can melt snow. The mod also makes blood, scorch marks, and bullet holes follow the shape of the ground. Dropped weapons and items can leave dents in soft dirt and snow.
You can change many of these features to suit your taste. The mod has a menu where you can turn terrain effects on or off. You can change how deep footprints are, how far away they appear, and how long they last. You can also adjust snow depth, kicked-up snow, blast craters, bullet marks, blood, and the way fire melts snow. Most changes take effect right away, so you do not need to restart the game.
The latest version also adds fixes and extra features. It improves how the mod detects footsteps in first person and fixes visual streaks when using ENB Parallax. Snow prints now work better with Seasons Change. NPCs leave different marks when they run or sneak, and power armor leaves large prints. Hard landings in power armor can melt snow. The update also fixes prints that appeared too late or showed up in front of the player when walking backward.
The mod also supports Fallout 4 VR, though some effects are still limited to the flat-screen version. It works with several game versions, including the next-gen update and the Anniversary version. It also supports many landscape texture mods without the need for extra patches.
You can go ahead and download it from this link.
If you are into Fallout 4, you might also want to check out these other mods for it. For instance, there is an LOD mod that reduces distant object/shadow/texture pop-ins. Then we have the Disk Cache Enabler Mod. There’s also a mod that adds ragdoll physics and collisions to dead bodies. Another amazing mod is this one that fixes the game’s long loading times. DirectHit is a mod that overhauls the AI of enemies. And let’s not forget this mod that adds real locational damage to all enemies. We also have this mod that adds 10 driveable cars/vehicles with Havok physics, as well as this Enhanced Movement Mod. Modders have even brought Fallout: New Vegas’ skill system to it.
To improve performance, you can use the following mods. For instance, there is a mod that adds support for NVIDIA DLSS 2, AMD FSR 2, and Intel XeSS. And then we have this free AMD FSR 3.0 Frame Gen Mod.
Earlier this month, I shared a mod that aims to eliminate most of the game’s traversal stutters. This is a must-have mod. Thanks to it, Fallout 4 will feel much smoother. So, be sure to download it.
America Rising 2 is another fan DLC/expansion mod that integrates the Enclave faction into the main story with 24 main quests. Hunter’s Abyss and Caves Of The Commonwealth are two other fan expansion mods. Let’s also not forget Fallout London, which looks promising. Misery Island is another DLC-sized fan expansion. You can also download Sim Settlements 2 – Chapter 3, Whispering Hills, which is a cool Silent Hill mod, and The Wilderness Mod.
For our horror fans, there is a horror quest mod that is inspired by Lovecraft, Resident Evil, and Dead Space. In The Flesh is not the only horror quest mod we have shared, though. Earlier this month, we also reported on another horror quest mod that was inspired by the Aliens franchise. So, if you are a fan of it, you should definitely check it out.
A few months ago, we also shared a brand new dark quest mod, called Project A.R.E.S. Let’s also not forget Atom’s Retribution, which offers 24+ hours of gameplay and 40+ new quests. Fallen World is another cool mod for Fallout 4. This is said to offer the hardest survival experience. Oh, and the Mass Effect Evolution Mod is once again available for download.
Have fun and stay tuned for more!
