GTA 5 modded new feature

The full source code for Grand Theft Auto 5 has been leaked online

In November 2022, a part of GTA 5’s source code was leaked online. And earlier today, new reports surfaced, suggesting that the entire code for this GTA game has been leaked.

Now what’s interesting here is that this code includes a Bully 2 file. It also has an early GTA 5 map and script which confirms that GTA 6 was once codenamed “Project Americas”.

Unfortunately, we don’t know how this leak happened. Some theorize that the full source code has been traded between individuals since 2022. That’s when the big Rockstar hack occurred. Back then, a hacker obtained an early build of Grand Theft Auto 6, as well as the source code for GTA 5.

As always, we won’t be sharing any download links to it. That’s been our policy for all leaked dev builds/source codes for pretty much all PC games. To be honest, though, I don’t expect the source code to be of any interest to the average PC gamer. I also don’t expect modders to use it in their mods.

Speaking of security breaches, earlier this month, hackers shared Insomniac’s future gaming plans, as well as a PC dev build of Marvel’s Wolverine. It was also revealed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 targets a FY2025 release date on PC.

Lastly, we suggest taking a look at these free mods for Grand Theft Auto 5. For instance, we have this mod that overhauls over 70 side characters. Then there is this Real Life Beverly Hills ModNaturalVision Evolved Mod is a graphical overhaul mod that aims to improve the game’s lighting. In August, we also shared a mod that restored all the songs that were cut from the game. And then we have all the amazing mods that JulioNIB has shared over the past few years.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. The fact this is even newsworthy is the problem.

Gaming companies have become incredibly protective of their code due to the change in business model, where they now milk online players for literally decades with microtransactions.

In the past many developers simply gave their code away to the community. 5 years after Quake 3 Arena came out, idSoftware just gave out the whole engine for free.

But today, a 10-year-old game like GTA5 having its code in the open is somehow noteworthy.

      1. Removing music from products people already purchased, repeatedly abusing the DMCA to take down legitimate mods, harassing modders with PIs and legal threats, leaving their games full of security holes which opens their players up to being DDoSed, banning people that have never cheated, etc.

  2. The fact this is even considered noteworthy is the problem.

Gaming companies have become incredibly protective of their code due to the change in business model, where they now milk online players for literally decades with microtransactions.

In the past, many developers simply gave their code away to the community. 5 years after Quake 3 Arena came out, idSoftware just gave out the whole engine for free, including stripping the Punkbuster anti-cheat code. Simply because that was the right thing to do so others could learn from how the game was made.

The difference between a useful and useless programmer, is that the useful programmer has learnt how to read other people’s code, a useless programmer has only learnt how to read their own code.

But today, a 10-year-old game like GTA5 having its code in the open is somehow noteworthy, because developers need to protect their money making machine at all cost.

When developers get fired, or source code is leaked, there is always this outcry from the gaming media. I really couldn’t care less about most game developers of today, most people working in the gaming industry are implementing microtransactions, games-as-a-service, outsourcing. Game devs tend to be manipulative scammers and jerks, with few exceptions.

    1. Sharing source code has literally never been the norm, John Carmack and ID were always the exception not the rule. That being said… IDGAF about R* having their sh*t leaked.

          1. Indeed, releasing source code is such a nice gesture that you even end up looking like a bit of a jerk to mention EA in such a sarcastic manner.

  3. There are two major problems with modding GTAV:
    1. You have to manually edit GTAV’s asset files to add the modded files to them.
    2. When GTAV updates, it breaks your mods, and you have to reinstall your mods from scratch, manually editing the game’s asset files again.
Even if you’re just using scripts via ScriptHookV, it needs to be updated before it will work with a new version of GTAV, and sometimes your scripts need to be updated too.
They update GTAV far too often for modding the game to be practical, and the only real solution to that problem is to crack the game so you can play it without the Rockstar Social Club.

    1. Yeah and if you eye patch it there’s no online anyways so sp is frozen for a long time, grab a version and then grab the versions mods en masse then you’re good to go for until you want some new mods but at this point how many worthy new mods are there for this game? They at least separated rdr2 sp and rdro from learning more in gtao, all the updates and gb’s of online gtao are not needed for just the sp campaign but it’s required afaik for those just looking for the sp game. justar could at least give out an rdr2 that incorporates the mp assets for sp mode free roam maybe after the campaign or something but nope. And rdro is abandoned.

      1. Don’t get me started on GTA Online… I once purchased a Shark Card on Steam because I saw they were on sale for something like half price, and every time I played GTA Online after that I would get banned again and each time it was a longer ban until eventually it was a permaban. I guess they were pissed I purchased the Shark Card on Steam instead of their own store, so they only got 70% of the money.

I was furious at the time, but Rockstar’s support team has a policy that forbids them from talking to a customer who has been banned, even if it’s a temp ban. I even tried going through the Better Business Bureau and Rockstar’s response was just them directing the BBB to decide the matter in their favor.

Rockstar is an incredibly scummy company. After all, why deal with a customer in good faith and try to resolve an issue like this when that customer can just create a new account and buy another copy of your game to be allowed to play online again?

Need more revenue? Just ban half the players from online play, and force them all to buy new copies of the game. You only have to do it slowly over the course of several years, and it’s doubtful anyone will notice. Oh sure, you’ll have a few people who are upset with you, but the vast majority of fanboys will come back for the next game and spend even more money so unless someone internal blows the whistle on you then you’re just laughing all the way to the bank, and you can minimize the risks by making sure that only a select few people actually know what you’re doing.

        1. Sounds about right for TT justar tactics. I thankfully never got into online gaming or even lan parties back in the day but if I was going to play with others it would be LAN parties where you’re there in person with friends not randos or relying on a dev to furnish server space on their terms with friends only lobby. Well lesson learned for you hopefully.

          1. you can do that in gta v without a lan. just spawn in to a crew only server and have your friends and you all in the same crew. you can even do it with up to 4 different crews if some of your friends are in different crew and don’t feel like changing it just for that one game. and you yourself are allowed to be a member of different crews.

that being said the gtao that i’ve played has been 99% in a private server. but i do join heists and missions that are multiplayer missions from the in game cell phone. and it normally drops me right back off in private server after the missions over.

      2. isn’t that what 5M is?

but i guess that’s only multi-player tho. i do know you can use mods/mod-menu in single player and not get in trouble. but it does suck you can’t save more of your cars in single player. there’s basically no point in upgrading them because 99% of the time, they’ll just disappear whenever you do a mission if it’s not in the garage at your house.

  4. They are still using DOS Batch files instead of using Powershell Scripts?
I’m not even a programmer but I know Powershell scripts are infinitely more powerful and flexible than DOS Batch files

    Sheesh ……..
