Rarely. Most “free” games require you to pay for the subscription service. Though they are currently giving away Lost Odyssey on 360 & XB1 to everyone (e.g. no XBLG needed).

Does the online multiplayer work for this game. And if it works, is there an active multiplayer base? Dirt 3 benefited greatly from the Humble Bundle sale.
