Valve’s Marc Laidlaw Responds To Recent “Half Life 3 Will Never Release” Rumour

A new rumour surrounding Half Life 3 surfaced yesterday, suggesting that even though the game’s script has been completed, it won’t be ever released due to fear. Naturally, fans contacted Marc Laidlaw who decided to respond and comment on this recent Half Life 3 rumour.

As Marc Laidlaw said, this is most probably someone trolling as “anonymous sources have been posting speculation masquerading as inside knowledge since the Half Life 1 days, and that fear is the last thing that would ever drive a decision about what to work on.”

Marc Laidlaw also addressed the “Story and script are complete” rumours, claiming that the Half Life 3 story cannot exist outside of the game.

“The story is created through the process of trying to figure out how to best use the features of the engine within the interesting set of constraints it poses. The story is part of the game. It doesn’t exist as a separate script that is handed off to game designers which they are expected to somehow make compelling through puzzles and combat.”

  1. Only thing I need from Valve just a post about Half-Life

“We’re f’ing making it, just wait little longer like 1 or 2 years”

  2. “someone trolling”
let me guess, is it funhaus via the know ? those idiots are trolls and or really misinformed, they said the samething (anonymous sources) about silent hills

    1. They are simply idiots and bad journalists.

They need to stick to being entertainers on their Funhaus channel.

    2. Yeah, but they also said something about XB1 without Kinect, Dark Souls III, and I believe the Tomb Raider PS4/PC releases aswell, so their track record is at least “something”. ¯_(?)_/¯

      1. well i (the whole internet) guessed kinect less xbox before them and tomb raider was supossed to release on PS4/PC and dark souls 3 wasn’t their guess it was rumored before i guess. well i don’t hate them but my god their podcasts and their news are just awful and it’s full of misleading informations and shillary

        1. I don’t understand why people get upset by them, they aren’t gaming journalists (whatever the f this means nowadays) and a lot of what they say mean completely bugger all and yet they are called a bunch of names and what not, people need to just ignore and move on.

I guess it’s the nature of the internet today, but still… *sigh*

          1. Point to me where they actually did that, because I have only saw the other way around.

          2. i’m not upset by them when they are joking, they are actually good but when in a serious podcast lawrence start to shill for big publishers is annoying and it’s anti consumer, when they play batman for less than an hour and they say game works fine for us and you guys are just angry whinny people is disrespectful, they did the same with FrameRate Police. the problem is they don’t know what they’re taking about most of the time when they get serious and they start to just throw some random and untrue information at people which is misleading at least.

          3. So? You see, that’s my point, I see this everywhere, in forums, message boards, comment sections, blogs, websites, videos, etc.

I know that there’s a argument to be made about the somewhat more well known internet personalities reaching a high number of people being considered a “opinion maker” but their influence in you, will only depend in you alone, and even when you see something that you disagree or find harmful to your state of mind you have the choice of keep arguing (which by the nature of how the internet works, never leads to nothing (oh the irony)) or just move on and stay around the type of content/opinion that better suits your way of thinking. I follow them since the Inside Gaming/Machinima days and I was quite like you when I started to watch the somewhat more “serious stuff” (the news, opinions and etc) and to this day they still do thing that makes me want to tear my hair out, and you know what? That’s fine, it’s all fine, my standards are different from them, my opinions are different, and it’s all fine. 🙂

Also, I didn’t find their video about the Framerate Police disrespectful at all. They presented their points, and talked about the cons and pros about it in a very succinct manner. They talked about how more information for the consumer is always good but also how it could potentially be used in a negative light (which is true) and the most important for me they said at the very end of the video “use your own brain and do your own research” which speaks volume about how and why I don’t see the reason so much people get upset.

          4. yes but having an opinion is one thing but pushing it through an official channel (rooster teeth) or using some insulting words in your serious podcasts is a whole nother thing. they can not insult some people and call it an opinion, they can not use clickbait stuff and call it rumors or anonymous source over and over and when it happens add credit to their names and when it’s not call it well that was a rumor. they are not professionals, they don’t have integrity and to be honest most of the time they don’t even know what they are talking about but they decide to do it anyway in some popular and serious channel or podcast which means spreading bad and untrue information to mainstream audience then it leads to confusion and confusion leads to distrust & strife.

          5. Of course they can, as anyone can. They talk bs on it on purpose, they make fun on purpose and people on the internet takes it waaay too seriously.
I see rumours everywhere even on the so called “professional gaming press” I see it always on reddit, neogaf and others and I hardly see people get as upset as they are towards “some Youtubers”.

If they are spreading bs, so does the WHOLE gaming press and we are arguing about bugger all.

Also, look at the positive side of it, someone at Valve came out and shed some light on the whole thing. BS or not, something came out of it.

          6. talking bs on purpose is for their gameplay videos, nothing about their podcast is funny, it’s a serious podcast, it’s not people on the internet it’s them talking serious and insulting people seriously. rumors are ok but fake bs rumors over and over is not, also reddit/4chan/neogaf etc… are not professional press, they are just social hubs and forums and i’m agree the whole gaming press is spreading bs day and night and that’s why i don’t read them and i usually talk against them.

yeah 😀 but at the negative side, we won’t get hl3 anytime soon, lol. but i’m ok with it cuz i know if they want to release a new hl game they won’t do it unless they have some new tech or ideas for it, afterall tech and new ideas made halflife well halflife.

          7. Sorry Amir, I never saw they insulting people, they are always joking, their bs are just as bad as the professionals bs (lol) and while I agree with their talking more serious on their podcasts I still don’t see how they are different from let’s say for example, TotalBiscuit opinions on some subjects. It’s all too subjective, it’s all non-professional, there’s pros there’s cons, but in the end it’s all about our own line of thinking.

As much as we like to gather as a community, there will be always a noise inside(a really buggering one) that will try to impose their particular vision of what that particular community should represent, when that happens, all that we can do is to try (and bloody hell is it hard) to be reasonable and just move on, keep to what we believe is the right way to keep enjoying our things. 🙂

May I recommend a video? Matt Lees – Can we keep politics out of gaming?.

          8. well thats the problem right there, their bs is anti cosumer and they really misinformed, you didn’t saw lawrence and adam s**ting on people who have problems with arkham knight in their podcast ? not only that but destiny or every EA games, of course TB is not professional but when he talks he knows what he is talking about and he is pro cosumer and thats a fact. telling your audience or pc gamers angry, whinny, entitled etc in a serious podcast is just straight up insulting.

i watched that video months ago. btw rooster teeth bought by Fullscreen more than a month ago and since then their usage of clickbait videos and anonymous source bs was started.

ps: more on topic, they didn’t even tried to ask valve about hl3 rumors which was the easiest way to do a news like this. they just wanted to do a clickbait video for no reason but pushing their bs and wrong/non factual opinions down to people’s throat.

          9. Just watched it now (I never watch their podcasts for huh… obvious reasons), and my point still stand. I doesn’t affect me, they aren’t professionals and felling upset by them is worthless. Watch their podcast about being gaming journalists (saw the title on yt and got curious 😛 ) or not and you will see their reasoning behind all of their reports, agreeing with them or not still doesn’t matter, we know better man, I know you do, so move on from that, let it be. If you think they are wrong, they will remain wrong.

Remember when Tyler Wilde from PCGAMER (mind you) wrote the article about the “PC Gaming Master Race”? Or even here on DSOG something reported are wrong or not fully researched? What does it change? Nothing, it’s still a site that I visit everyday, I don’t feel any wrong fact, opinion, or whatever pushed down on me, it’s all fine man, really. 🙂

P.S.: Their clickbaits are totally on purpose, they explained that on their old channel.

P.S.S.: Watch their video again, the fact that Laidlaw clarified the whole thing, does not make their claim off. At all. It made a whole bunch of sense if you really think about it. It just wasn’t anything different of any forum speculation.

One last thing: Nobody is pushing nothing against no one. 😉

  3. I lost all hope 1 year ago. At this point i dont even care anymore.Im replaying HL 1 on my android Tablet and also Black Mesa on the PC. Thats everything i care about. I cannot even begin to care about HL3. I doubt they will release it in the next 2-3 years, so a major MEH and whatever.

    1. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 ended with an absolutely heart crushing cliffhanger. If you played the whole series and experienced that ending, you’d be in the same boat as all of us.

      1. I did and sorry, I didn’t feel the same ‘heart crushing cliffhanger’. If you had played the Metal Gear solid since PS1 Half life would’t mean a thing. Especially MGS3.

          1. Bananas are a great way to start your morning, but they are rich in potasium as Veritasium says (youtube channel). Thus they produce 0.1 Micro Siverts of radiation.

          1. Well, you only need to be 36 to be older than me kid. Still needing attention?

  4. In Gaben we trust! Honestly this could be become the next Duke Nukem if it ever released. The hype would almost kill the game, irregardless of how good the game was.

  5. Each Half-Life showcased a new engine. I’m expecting the same for Half-Life 3. Maybe 1 year after Source 2 releases.

  6. No,,, Valve will not release Half Life 3, not because they are afraid, but because they have no interest. They are doing fine by selling games on Steam and updating Dota 2. But Dota 2 is the best thing that gamers expect from a company with millions of dollars, so that’s fine.

  7. I’m getting real tired of your sh*t Valve. Announce it, or cancel it but for f’s-sake do something.
