DSOGaming Launches Official Steam Group and Curator

Hey folks, Spencer here. Since I came on board with DSO just a couple of weeks ago, John and myself have discussed a handful of ideas for the future of DSO. When John posted his editorial about the community’s GOTY and me joining the staff, he mentioned in passing some of the things we had discussed privately.

Amongst these was the idea that DSO should begin to curate on Steam and in the comments on his article, reception to the concept of starting up as a curator seemed positive. While we intend to do even more in the future, as of today we’ve launched our official Steam group and curator.

Going forward I also intend to put together a weekly twitch.tv stream (should you decide to give me a follow beforehand, my channel is here), it will be scheduled so all of you can know when it’s happening. At times when I end up playing online multi I may even try to organize games with you guys, our community and I really look forward to interacting with you all :).

My next major goal is a podcast for DSO, I did a podcast for over a year with a friend of mine focused on consoles, handhelds and PC gaming and loved it. Here of course, such a podcast would be PC exclusive!

  1. Just to put things into perspective, we strongly believe that you should be following editors on both Twitch and YouTube and not a ‘generic’ channel representing a gaming portal. Both of them (Twitch and YouTube) are more personal than an FB page, or a Steam group, or a Twitter account. Therefore, a Twitch channel dedicated to DSOGaming feels pointless. In our opinion, you should be following the editors themselves, and the website – in this case, DSOGaming – should offer ways to make it easier for you to follow them.

  2. I joined the group, but then I saw that as a curator you recommended Duke Nukem Forever??? That alone is making me question the recomendations

    1. Yeah… they even say “All in all, DNF feels average at best…… a Fail To The King, Baby!”

Why recommend it? And also the RE ‘HD Remaster’? O.o

      1. So we took down the DNF recommendation. We were planning to “recommend” everything, including recommending against certain games. Such was the case here with DNF. We saw Total Biscuit doing it a handful of times and figured we might as well.

Since it seems some dislike that we’ve pulled that down. That said I actually would personally recommend DNF with MAJOR caveats; it’s an extremely interesting piece of gaming history and anybody who is a fan of Duke Nukem, the history of the FPS genre or just game development should honestly check it out.

If you’re looking for a good game? Probably not your cup of tea, but it’s an extremely interesting sort of museum of design concepts that became popular at specific times, you can see when parts of the games were designed due to Metroid Prime influences here, or Half Life 2 influences there, etc. Maybe I’ll do a video review explaining it but I’m actually dead serious, if any of that stuff interests you, play it. I spent like 40+ hours in that game, its expansion DLC and its multi. It isn’t very good but it is interesting.

    2. DNF shouldn’t be there. RE HD Remaster on the other hand is fine, it’s a highly enjoyable game for its price (it would be ideal if it packed greater visuals… but still)

      1. 15 USD for a port of a 13 year old game? Outcast re-release was 6 USD at launch and it still is, that is normal pricing in my opinion.
