Ubisoft has just released Title Update 1.8.0 for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and shared its full patch notes. This patch is 7.8GB on Steam and 12.27GB on Ubisoft Connect. So, let’s see what it brings to the table.
The biggest addition of this patch is New Game+, which lets you start your Viking journey again with a new challenge. The update also adds more gear upgrades, new rune options, and many combat tweaks.
New Game+ is now available after you finish the Holy Day quest in the Hamtunscire region. This is the last quest in that region. You do not need to reach the true ending to unlock it. Each new run will also get harder, giving you a fresh test each time you start again.
The new mode adds a new resource called Mithril. If you find gear or a Book of Knowledge that you already own, you will get Mithril instead. You can also buy it from the Niflheim, Mastery, and River Raid shops.
Wealth Chests also have new rewards. Carbon, Nickel, and Tungsten will now give you Platinum. This is a big change, as Platinum was once only part of the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC. It is now free for all players. This also lets you upgrade gear to Divine quality without owning the DLC.
Ubisoft has also raised the max upgrade level for Divine gear. It has gone from 13 to 27. Each new upgrade will need Mithril, so players will have to gather plenty of this new resource.
The update also adds a new Naoe Master Assassin outfit.
Players can now use a new option called Extended Progression. It changes how you gain Power as you play. Each gear upgrade and rune will now add one Power point. Masteries will add one point for every five skill points you earn.
This gives gear a bigger role in your growth. It also makes the game harder, but gives you more ways to build a strong hero.
There is also a new Stash in Ravensthorpe. You can use it to store any gear or rune from your bag. This makes it much easier to keep your gear neat and save items for later.
The Rune Forge now has a new tab that lets you upgrade your runes. You can use silver to move a rune from lesser to normal, then from normal to greater. There is also a new tier called superior. You can only get it by using the upgrade menu, and it costs Mithril.
The forge also adds more than 300 runes to its engrave menu. These include perks from the base game, DLC packs, and the Helix Store. Once you own a weapon or a full armor set, you can turn its perks into a rune for 450 silver.
This gives players many more ways to mix and match perks. It should also help them make gear sets that better fit their play style.
The update adds two new achievements. Ivaldi’s Heir asks you to fully upgrade a piece of Divine gear. Circle of Renewal asks you to finish a New Game+ run.
Ubisoft has also made many small changes to skill stats. These changes fix the values given by several skills. Assassination Damage now gives 5.3 per point, while Stealth Damage gives 1.7. Melee and Ranged Damage now give 2.3 per point.
Health now gives 5.2 per point, and Evasion gives 4.2. The Evasion bonus from the Way of the X skills has also been set to 0.6 per point. Poison and Fire damage and buildup resistance now give 5.6 per point.
Two nodes in the Dawn of Ragnarok Wolf skill tree have also changed. Both used to give Ranged Critical Damage. They now give Light Attack Damage.
The Raven, Bear, and Wolf Masteries have also been changed. Raven now gives more Assassination Damage, Evasion, and Health. It no longer boosts Stealth or Ability Damage.
Bear now gives more Melee Damage, Melee Resistance, and Health. It no longer boosts Ability Damage. Wolf now gives more Ranged Damage, Ranged Resistance, and Health. It no longer boosts Stealth or Ability Damage.
The update also makes major changes to weapon damage. Ubisoft has adjusted both normal and heavy attacks for many weapon types. The goal is to make combat and dual wielding feel better.
The Bearded Axe, Dagger, Spear, Hammer, Greatsword, and Dane Axe all get damage changes. The Flail, Heavy Shield, Light Shield, Fist, Sickle, Shortsword, and Scythe also receive new damage values.
Some attacks now deal more damage, while others have been toned down. These changes also depend on which weapon or shield you use in your other hand. This should make each weapon feel more balanced and give players more reasons to try new gear setups.
The Sickle, Shortsword, Scythe, and Atgeir also get changes to their attack speed. Their attack moves can now speed up or slow down based on the weapon’s Speed stat. This gives players more control over how fast these weapons feel in combat.
As always, Steam and Ubisoft Connect will download this new update the next time you launch their clients. Below, you can also find its full patch notes.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Patch 1.8.0 Release Notes
New Game+
We know this has been a request for ages, and we appreciate your patience. You can now start your Viking quest all over again after completing the main story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. To access NG+ you’ll have to complete the Holy Day Quest, which is the last quest of the Hamtunscire region. (This is before the true ending of the game but since it is a very big game, we’ve decided to allow you to start NG+ a little bit earlier) Each iteration of NG+ will get progressively harder, offering new challenges to players who want to revisit the Viking Age again and again.
In NG+, receiving a piece of gear or interacting with a book of knowledge that you already own will instead reward you with a piece of Mithril, a new resource. Mithril will also be accessible in the Niflheim, Mastery and River Raid shops, offering an alternate source of material for players who simply want to continue their adventure in the endgame. Additionally, looting Carbon, Nickel and Tungsten in a Wealth Chest will instead give Platinum, an ingot previously only available in the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC, now available for free. This also means that upgrading a piece of gear to the Divine quality is now available without the DLC.
We’ve also added a new Naoe Master Assassin outfit.
Extra Upgrades
To keep up with each NG+, we are raising the maximum upgrade level of each piece of divine gear from 13 to 27, increasing your gear’s potential strength. Each upgrade will require the new Mithril resource, so you will need a lot of it!
Extended Progression Mode
This gameplay option allows you to play through Valhalla with a more granular sense of progression. While Extended Progression is active, Gear upgrades and Runes will increase Power by 1 point, and Masteries increase Power every 5 skill points. This mode is intended to increase the impact of your gear. The challenge is greater, but the reward is great for the mighty.
Stash
As we all know, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a big game, and it keeps getting bigger each year. With this update, we’re adding a way to help sort and organize your gear and runes; the Stash. In Ravensthorpe, you’ll be able to discover a newly installed Stash which, when interacted with, will allow players to store any piece of gear and any rune from their inventory.
Rune Forge Update
As an added bonus, we’ve decided to give the rune forge a couple of updates. Players will notice a new tab within the menu which will allow them to upgrade their runes in exchange for silver. From lesser to normal, from normal to greater AND from greater to superior, a new tier of rune which can be only obtained from the rune upgrade page. This last upgrade requires Mithril instead of silver and will allow players to obtain even more power from their runes.
The second addition to the rune forge is in the engrave page; we’ve added more than 300 available engravable runes, allowing players to engrave all of the perks that have been added since the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, including DLCs and those purchased in the Helix Store. As long as players acquire a weapon or an entire armor set, they will find the set of armor and weapon in the engrave menu which will be able to be engraved into a rune for 450 silver. This allows players to create a lot of different combinations of perks; we can’t wait to see what they do with these new opportunities.
New Achievements
The Most Requested Update also brings 2 new achievements for the completionists amongst you:
- Ivaldi’s Heir: Fully upgrade a Divine Gear
- Circle of Renewal: Complete a New Game+ run
PSSR 2 Support
PSSR 2 support arrives on PlayStation®5 Pro console, enhancing image quality and performance as you journey through sweeping landscapes, vibrant cities and serene countryside.
