Embark Studios and Bungie have announced that ARC Raiders and Marathon, two of the latest extraction shooters, will get pure PvE game modes.
Going into more detail, the Symbiosis Update for Marathon will add its first permanent PvE mode. This mode will let you explore, test new ideas, and take on challenges without worrying about other Runners hunting you. The update will also add a Team Deathmatch mode. This will give you a quick way to practice your skills and fight other players without putting a full run at risk.
On the other hand, Embark Studios will run a PvE matchmaking test next month. The test will take place from October 13 to 20. Players will be able to choose between the classic ARC Raiders PvPvE mode and a new PvE mode. This new mode will focus on co-op play. Players can team up with other Raiders and fight the ARC threat together.
The PvE test will let players scavenge, complete quests, and explore with less risk from other players. The goal is not to make PvE harder or test new ways to progress. Instead, Embark wants to give players a choice for those who want to avoid PvP fights. The team will also listen to player feedback after the test.
There will be a few changes in the PvE mode. The total value of loot will be lower because the mode is safer. Also, be careful if an ARC enemy knocks you down. It may target you again if you keep moving while down. If you stay still, it will leave you alone. This is meant to add some risk and keep the mode tense without a PvP threat.
Embark Studios says this test does not confirm that a PvE mode will come to ARC Raiders. Still, the test could help shape the game’s future. If players enjoy the mode, Embark may consider adding it in a future update. The team will likely use player feedback from the test to decide what comes next.
