And the hype is real. Black Myth: Wukong came out a few hours ago and in less than 24 hours, it managed to hit 2.2 million concurrent players. This is, right now, the most successful single-player game on Steam. It’s also the second game with the most concurrent players in the history of Steam, only surpassed by PUBG.
This means that Black Myth: Wukong has managed to surpass megahits like DOTA 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Palworld and Elden Ring. Counter-Strike 2 is also behind Wukong, as are Lost Ark, Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur’s Gate 3.
For those wondering, here are the Top 20 games on Steam with the most concurrent players.
To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting those sale numbers. Black Myth: Wukong was indeed one of the most anticipated games of 2024. However, I’m certain that the game exceeded Game Science’s expectations.
It will be interesting to see the number of concurrent players after the first 24 hours. Since the game came out today, I don’t expect those numbers to be boosted over the weekend. I also don’t expect it to surpass PUBG. Still, these numbers are already impressive.
Let’s now hope that the devs will attempt to address some of the issues we raised in our articles. Black Myth: Wukong is one of the best looking games on PC right now. However, the game suffers from some stuttering issues. The game has both shader compilation and traversal stutters. And while these stutters are not as bad as those we saw in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, they can still be annoying. So, here is hoping that Game Science will do something to reduce them.
Now if you’re planning to play Wukong, I strongly suggest downloading the latest NVIDIA driver. AMD will also share an optimized driver later today. And yes, even Intel has released a driver for it.
