GhostWire Tokyo new feature

Bethesda has removed Denuvo from Ghostwire: Tokyo

In April 2023, Bethesda released the Spider’s Thread Free Update for Ghostwire: Tokyo which added to the game the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. And today, almost a year after that update, Bethesda decided to remove the controversial anti-tamper tech.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a first-person action-adventure from Tango Gameworks that came out in 2022. In this game, players will explore a unique vision of Tokyo twisted by a supernatural presence.

When it came out, Ghostwire: Tokyo supported NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR, and had some Ray Tracing effects. So, here are our DLSS, FSR and Ray Tracing benchmarks. Be also sure to check out our PC Performance Analysis.

For those wondering, no. We won’t be benchmarking this Denuvo-free version of Ghostwire: Tokyo. From what we could tell when we tested it, Denuvo did not affect its performance. Still, this game will be ideal for those who want to test a game with and without it.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is not the only triple-A game that no longer has Denuvo. Last month, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto Protocol. NEOWIZ has also removed Denuvo from its Souls-like game, Lies of P. And, earlier this year, EA removed the controversial anti-tamper tech from One Way Out.

It’s also worth noting that other publishers have also removed Denuvo from some of their games. Bethesda’s Wolfenstein Youngblood and Doom Eternal no longer have it. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11. Then we have Bandai Namco who has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.

Capcom is also another publisher that has removed Denuvo from its older titles. For instance,  Resident Evil 2 RemakeResident Evil 3 RemakeDevil May Cry 5 and Monster Hunter World no longer have it.

Stay tuned for more!

      1. Do you seriously believe that Bethesda had no say in how this game or Starfield or Fallout 76 were developed? That’s not how Publishers manage studios.

        1. Yes, some of them are working like them.
With TEW1 and TEW2 Bethesda also had nothing to say.

        2. Starfield and F76 are *made* by Bethesda. Whatever Tango does is *published* by Bethesda. While the publisher does have a say in it, it’s nowhere near to the same thing

          1. I think I see the difficulty that you are having here. You don’t fully understand the relationship between the Publisher and the Developer. Between the manager and the employee. It doesn’t matter if the employed works in a company directly owned by the manager. They are still in the subservient position contractually. Yes, there are legal contracts involved in these arrangements.

You can still enjoy gaming without understanding business fundamentals so at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter.

        3. I think they where probably involved in the design of some mary sue character, skrillex haircut is quite odd for a game so rooted in Tokyo and japanese lore.

    1. Tango still have a flawless career in my book. The Evil Within 1 and 2 and Ghostware are top notch games.

  1. Lol the game was Denuvoless at release, then they added Denuvo with the DLC thinking they will make mountains of money with it, turns out no one bought the game nor the DLC and now they desperately want someone to play it legally or not

    1. The Denuvo contract is up and they don’t want to pay for renewal. They didn’t “remove” jack schitt. Same goes for crapcom. Denuvo just makes loads of money for doing nothing. All these dummies do is go to the torrent sites, multiply that downloaded number by the price and say, “we lost x amount of money in sales”. LMAO, 🤣😂😭 it doesn’t work like that. That’s why they are always, talking in “lost revenue”.

I’ve pirated so many games and just never bothered playing them after 5 minutes because they are trash. I’d call that a demo. Speaking of a Demo, gamers should be pissed seeing how they are being disrespected. They’ve done everything in their power, every step of the way to make sure the gameR NEVER auditions the product. The new one is the streamer. “Watch your favorite streamer in order to see what the game looks & feel like”. Not to worry, the bought and paid for got you covered. Can you imagine if you went to marry a girl and they say, “watch your favorite Pnog star rail her” in order to know what she “feels like”. Haha, what a fuqin disrespect. Anyone that still defend the developers are clowns.

Yeah, the executive just didnt want to be blamed for their sh*ty decision of how the game being made by blame it on piracy. Thankfully nowadays many sh*ty denuvo games stay uncracked so they start to look another venue to be blamed from youtuber to their own fans

        1. Yes, it’s all about passing the blame. The funny thing is that actually works. Some patsy takes the blame and feel worthy of their presence after doing so.

    2. I think they just added Denuvo to spite potential pirates of playing the updated game. At this time who even thinks in these terms of lost sales is just lacking in neurons.

  2. “What should we do Hamato-san?”

    “You shoud remuveru de denuveru.”

    “Hai Hamato-san.”

  3. Doesn’t even worth the time.
Game is a boring fest, and that comes from a person who loves walking sims.
