DSOG feature 2

YOU can determine DSOGaming’s Comment Section Policy for 2021-2022 [UPDATE: Results]

And it’s that time of the year again. Today we’re letting you vote and decide for yourselves our Comment Section Policy for 2021 and 2022. This poll will run until Wednesday (October 20th) and will end at 21:00 GMT.

In the past few months, I’ve received countless emails about our Comment section. I also don’t really mind receiving angry emails, so yeah, some of those emails did not really affect me. Still, I’d like to remind you that we are THE ONLY website that allows its users to determine its Comment Policy. We are as “pro-reader” as we can get, and we’ll stay that way. So cast your vote.

Do note that in order to minimize any possible spam or attempt to alter the results, we only accept accounts that have at least 70 comments. Accounts that have been created today or last week are not allowed. Duplicate comments are not allowed. We’ll be also deleting all irrelevant/off-topic comments from this story (so that it’s easier to determine which option has won). You can only vote for one option (if your comment has two options, the first one will be the valid one). Also, if you don’t choose a number, your comment will be deleted.

We believe that these requirements/rules will benefit you, our readers. After all, if you cared about our Comment Policy these past years, you will undoubtedly have more than 70 comments, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of voting for something you are not participating in? We’ve also decided to merge the previous 2nd and 3rd options (as they more or less talked about the same thing).

This new Comment Section Policy will take effect on October 20th and will last for one year. In 2022 we’ll have a new poll for a new Comment Policy.

Here are all the available choices:

  1. Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers: Our readers can comment on anything they want. They can leave political or racist comments, and they can insult other members (who can defend themselves via the Comment section. Moderators are not required to protect them and they can leave all users to fight each other). Spammers will not be allowed and will be banned, no matter what.
  2. Users can talk about anything other than racist or political stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed: Our readers can talk about anything as long as it’s not racist or personal attacks. Moderators are free to delete comments THEY feel are racist or personal attacks. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
  3. Only PC-gaming related stuff: Our readers can talk only about PC gaming stuff. As such, they can’t share off-topic videos (such as music videos), talk about the weather, earthquakes or other disasters (like tsunamis for example), talk about history, or talk about all the other aforementioned categories. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
UPDATE:

Once again, the first rule won. I mean, there is really no point counting the votes as you can clearly see that the first option is the most voted one.

HOWEVER, some of you can’t help being assholes and want to spoil unreleased games. We’ve seen this with Horizon Zero Dawn, we are also seeing it now with God of War. YOU CAN USE THE SPOILER TAG IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT SPOILERS. If, however, you want to act like an asshole and don’t use the tag, you will be banned. Those spoiling unreleased PC games without using the tag fall in the “Spammer” category and will be banned. This is unnegotiable and I believe all of us agree on this. So be warned, spoilers for new/unreleased PC games are not allowed without the tag. Plain and simple.

  1. 1. this is one of the few sites out there that allows free speach and actually has game journos, not activists.

  2. 1. As usual.
Is what keeps me going back to this site over the other places that can’t handle internet banter and uncheck honesty in their comments.

  3. 1, either you have freedom of speech or you don’t, since it has became so scarce nowadays i hope at least here we can have it. For the weak minded, you can go to twitter or whatever and have BigTech mama protecting you from words on the internet.

    1. But we must remain respectful. There are 4-5 people on here that thinks it’s ok to call people N*gg*r because they can’t do it in person so they feel empowered to do it here. They love to sit on their white horse and act as if others are the problem and they are squeaky clean. The moment you start with the slurs your argument becomes invalid and that’s the sad part. They take all this time to compile a good argument then you realize it’s all out of hate; not out of working towards change, just pure hate. Big tech ain’t protecting anyone they are just protecting their lobbyist.

      1. there is no must, nobody owes you respect and they are free to call you whatever the hell they want but so are you. It’s thanks to pu**ies like you that this world is already doomed.

        1. The fact you even had to put asterisks on that word to post your comment speaks volumes about what a farce this commenting policy is.

  4. #1.. its a no brainer. Yes, there’s a lot of cancer that gets posted but just as there are many trolls there are still a ton of decent folk that usually have some intelligible opinions worth hearing.. regardless of how controversial.

  5. 1

Anybody who minds trolling comments or certain political opinions, just block the poster and you will never have to read from him again. No problem. The disqus system already has you covered. There is no reason to enact specific censorship in individual comment spaces. Free speech works for every one who can click on buttons.

  6. 1. No question about it. Freedom of speech was the first thing that attracted me to this website.

Oh, and I wish some banned words would be allowed. One time, there was a conversation about “genders”(lol), and it was difficult to participate cos every time, my comments were awaiting moderation. There was nothing extreme in the conversation though.

Edit : OR, publish a list of the words which are banned.

      1. lmao.

To be honest, I dont care leftard retoric, the problem is when you dont allow rightwing retoric to balance it.

        1. Well that’s not “Freedom Of speech” now is it? I don’t have a problem with people sexing what and who they want, but when you start to recruit the children that’s where the problem starts. But yes I get it. But with that sentiment, you won’t feel so good when the same regime comes after you for your beliefs even if it’s not harmful in anyway. Free speech works both ways man, even for speech you don’t like.

    1. If there are banned words then this site is lying about how open and “uncensored” they are, no ifs, ands, or buts.

  7. 1. Pretending offensive things don’t exist, or trying to hide them? Doesn’t solve a single thing. Let the offense flow, and become stronger from the adversity.

    1. Fernando is Wild’n out. He says few words but they trigger so many of us. He knows how to toe the line so he doesn’t fall into spammerville.

  8. 1. Unrestrained Policy.

Sure at time’s the comment section can be a toxic hell hole. But it isn’t that bad. Usually only when 2 people disagree about something and it’s usually an angry downvoter snow flake from reddit that exclusively plays on console LOL. I really can’t vote for anything else since I can’t stand seeing cancel culture baby’s want to destroy things because they were offended. If I supported anything else I would feel like a hypocrite transexual hurt f##k loser working at netflix.

Most people here are pretty rad and just frustrated with the the way gaming is headed and I don’t blame them. I see and agree with those frustrations too. For the most part everybody here is pretty cool so keep it the way it is. Altho, take off the swear censor. Having to rewrite comments because it needs to be “verified/awaiting moderation” because of a curse word is like having beers with your buddys at the Mormon Church block party.

  9. 1. Save the censorship and/or moral parenting, for dump sites.

I also second doing away with banned words bulls**t, so I don’t have to do the masking myself anymore. Seriously now, words exist, use them.

  10. 1. As much as I dislike some of the spam comments that go completely off topic making it hard to have a conversation about the games or hardware in article, The way the world is going it is even more important to have free speech these days, So I grit my teeth and put up with their spam BS or block them myself.

  11. 2 i guess? Though I’d actually prefer something else.

Haven’t noticed much racism or political stuff here even with the current unrestrained policy, but i like the site’s content and focus, and would appreciate more mature discussions, with less ragey/spammy comments (yeah i know, I’ve blocked those guys anyway).

I’m thinking something like arstechnica. Great content, great comments, no jarring contrast there, all profit.

It would be cool if you could promote or encourage better discussions in some way, though that happens usually only in sites that are more technical, about industry analysis, older tech, or similar stuff with less of a young audience, and may be it just can’t be expected here. Just my two cents.

  12. it should be 3.. but i already don’t read the comments here because everything is if offtopic, toxic and tinged with hate. This is a gaming site and that is what the comments should be about.
Also, to the site owner, the monsters that post are still going to come to the site to read the news – these unpleasant peeps do it every place they can. What is the point of the comments when they are unrelated to the news/topic of the post? They already have most of the internet to post on already.

    1. Monsters. lol.
The only monsters are those who feel they can control thought and speech.
It’s only been demonstrated throughout history and here you are, preaching the same bullshit as if you’re enlightened lol.

  13. 1. Why? Because if web pages starts to ban/censor/redact etc it means that they are basically an moderated editorials and as such should be governed by the same laws. Letting users write what they want is real freedom, if they break the laws… its their own choice.

  14. There are tons of sites with policies 2 & 3, i come here for the lulz on the comment section coming from the brain damaged people. So 1 for me.

  15. 1. Why is this brought up every year? F*k censorship and polliticaly correct bullsh*t. Allow people to say what they want.

        1. Even worse. Nothing says freedom to me like someone else going in and editing what I said. That’s Reddit-tier thought-policing.

  16. 1.

The Internet was not created to pander to anyone. It is an ultimate tool for expressing and sharing ideas instantly. Not a tool to govern and enslave the civilization for “wrongthink”.

Extremist views need to be debated, not censored, they only fester in the dark. This way you can show everyone that your idea is better, which leaves the extreme without support only to wither and die.

  17. 1.
Censorship will only become more extreme, if we allow it. Look at other websites, they have totally removed the comments section. We are becoming a dystopian generation.
If other people’s opinions bother you, counter them with good sense, logic and maturity and you will have a better effect on them then silencing them
    Again, I choose 1.

  18. 1. This is one of the few sites that allows free speech. If someone is posting something that you don’t like then there’s nothing stopping you from blocking them or downvoting their comments.

your comment section, despite how toxic it can get is far more tolerable than the censored comment sections on pcgamer and rockpapershotgun as well as their garbage/ agenda driven articles.

  19. Option 2 ?
To get rid of the kids.
There is huge difference when 30 years old have freedom of speech [which is obvious] and 10 years old pimple faced pre-teens [should be gagged]

  20. 1.
i dont think there are any more readers left that would want the last option and as for the second honestly its always an idea of who determines what. People will give you sh*t for determining things in a way they dont like. So 1 and let people sort themselves out.

  21. Just wanted to add love this site for the actual game reporting going on – this is why I come here. None of the sjw agenda pushing garbage that other popular sites include. Yes some hilarity in the comments section but so what – its an option to participate. So thank you and I vote 1 as well.

    1. It’s strange on my laptop it’s very slow to load articles but on my desktop it loads fast. The laptop used to be much faster. Both are running Windows 10.

  22. “So be warned, spoilers for new/unreleased PC games are not allowed without the tag. Plain and simple.”

But the psychotic rants, racism, homophobia and other sh*t is perfectly fine. OAGv2 here we come.

    1. Well the readers voted for the “Unrestrained Policy”, didn’t they? What would be the point to run a poll and then decide a completely different policy? We were also enforcing the “no-spoilers” policy all this time (especially since Disqus has the spoiler tag). So basically, nothing really changes.

    2. Please tell me about racism Jewish man. Tell me why the Jewish raised founder of BLM Alicia Garza (Schwartz) doesn’t critique Israel’s chief rabbi calling her a monkey. Also tell me why she never mentions Aaron Lopez or Jews dominating the South American slave trade, where the vast majority of slaves were shipped. Then tell me why you run the “white supremacist sites” on the other side of the argument. Also tell me why we should support an apartheid TERRORIST ethnostate that has repeatedly planned to attack and kill US Soldiers. The USS Liberty is NOT the only such event. Also explain Leo Frank trying to frame an innocent black man for his crime, which white people didn’t accept and B’nai B’rith forming the ADL to attack white people for JUSTICE. You are the biggest racists in the world. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fda61fd330c8d408e4e17641b2f5dc2af728adf6af9d8a68ccef26e08b05683b.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b648be265f0e20bf01bf95786dcd478a9eed8c2531a8568ace478b07dbe1be52.jpg

    3. Because people like you label everything a phobia and hate when you dont like an opinion. That’s why freedom of speech in many places (and gov’t) existed in the first place, so little emotional wimpy jerkoffs dont get to censor everyone.

You always have reddit and pcgamer where you can play the “my feelings are hurt, cancel that person!” game all day long if you like.

    4. And because r3t@rds like you, that constantly bî?ch and cry and complain about everything, people will always pick 1. No one cares about your homophobia, bud. It’s average internet toxicity, get over it, or f off.

  23. Freedom of speech to these people is just saying The Ni@@@er or F@@@t and if you don’t like these two words you are labeled as an SJW lol
dunno what being a constant crazy hateful persons ads to a gaming discussion but what do I know.

  24. 1. Please. People that think otherwise are the problem. It is not about racists vs victims, what it really is about is Intelligence vs Stupidity. If you are intelligent enough to think for yourself and not take things personal, then you shouldn’t get offended for people speaking their minds Most importantly rejecting cultural Marxism in the process.

  25. Can you also take off the swear filter? or turn off the awful awaiting moderation thingy and let me re-edit the comment instead of having to make a new one

    1. Words are censored so we can keep the site safe from Google. If you guys want us to remove the filter, you should support us on Patreon. Once – and if – we hit our 3K goal, we’ll remove all ads and the swear filter.

    1. The voting is over and the winner is option 1. Also you need at least 70 comments for your vote to be counted. Just so you know for next October’s vote.
