Desperados 3 – First Impressions, Gameplay Footage & 4K Screenshots

THQ Nordic has just released its latest strategy game, Desperados 3, on the PC. Since the company has provided us with a review code, we’ve decided to capture some PC gameplay footage and 4K/Max settings screenshots from it. We’ll be also sharing our First Impressions of it.

In order to capture the following screenshots, we used an Intel i9 9900K with 16GB of DDR4 at 3600Mhz. Naturally, we’ve paired this machine with an NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti. We also used Windows 10 64-bit and the latest version of the GeForce drivers.

Desperados 3 does not require a high-end PC system. As you can see, we were able to get more than 120fps in 4K and on Max settings on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080Ti. The game also did not stress our Intel Core i9 9900K. In short, this strategy game can run smoothly on a wide range of PC configurations.

Desperados III is a story-driven, hardcore tactical stealth game. Now I have to be honest here; it’s been a while since I last played Desperados on the PC. However, this third entry feels and plays exactly the same way I remember the first two games did. There is a vision cone system, as well as various gadgets to use in order to complete your missions. This is a great strategy game so if you loved the first two Desperados games, you’ll also love this one.

The game allows you to play with five characters, each with a very particular set of skills. Moreover, you can choose between non-lethal and deadly attacks. Additionally, the game comes with a Showdown mode. This mode allows you to pause the game anytime and react to ambushes or surprise attacks.

I kind of enjoyed the first three levels of the single-player mode. The voice acting is serviceable, as are the graphics. Desperados 3 does not set new standards on the graphical and audio areas, that’s for sure. Still, this is a really enjoyable strategy game.

Enjoy!

  1. This game is really good and well optimized

Off-topic John any confirmation about ryzen 4000 series getting delayed

  2. I am really happy they bring a lot of games back. And so far they are pretty well done. #Commandos next please :O

  3. The first one was the best tactical game of 2001 for me!
Can’t wait to try this one!

    1. I haven’t finished any of the classic Desperados games yet.
After playing Commandos, they seem more random, and clunky, so I often end up doing things I didn’t want to 🙂

Those are still great and unique games, though.
Have you played Shadow Tactics? It’s pretty good, especially now when this type of games is really rare.
I only wish it were less cartoony (although it kinda fits the traditional Japanese art style).

      1. Oh yeah, I remember I bought Shadow Tactics as soon as it was released. ha ha
I’m definitely fond of this niche genre. (as you say, such games are pretty rare!)
Yeah, it would be nice to have a Shadow Tactics 2 with better graphics like this new Desperados!

      1. It does look good. Many old 2D games look bad when they switch to a 3D engine, but in this case, it works very well. (well, Desperados 2 wasn’t too good, though lol)

    1. 2D graphics for the win!
And remember, this is a game from 2001…
Imagine how good these visuals could look in 2020.
By the way, it’s a big shame nobody even tries to do those realistic 2D top-down graphics anymore.
If anything, Beautiful Desolation comes kinda close at times. But there’s still no real deal on the market. 🙁
      Cartoony graphics are everywhere nowadays.

  4. “Desperados 3 does not require a high-end PC system”…

*PLAYS GAME ON HIGH END SYSTEM*
LOL WTF MAN!!! 2080TI isn’t high end to you?
