A screenshot from the first PCB for AMD’s new Navi graphics cards has been leaked online, giving us a first look at what we can expect from this new generation of GPUs. The biggest difference between the previous AMD GPUs and the upcoming Navi is the replacement of the memory unit. Contrary to the previous GPUs that used HBM2, the AMD Navi GPUs will be using GDDR6 memory.
From the looks of it, this PCB is from a reference GPU that will be using a blower-style fan, though we can expect custom versions with dual or triple fans from third-party partners.
The PCB also appears to have space for eight modules, suggesting that this GPU will offer 8GB of total VRAM over a 256-bit memory bus. If that’s the case, we can expect this GPU -in design – to be similar to the RX580.
Unfortunately the PCB does not give any indication of the die size or the frequency/raw power that this GPU will have, so we can’t really compare it with what is currently available on the market. Still, this is a cool leak and we are pretty sure that some AMD fans will find it interesting.
From what we know so far, AMD will highlight new details of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen CPUs and NAVI GPUs at Computex 2019, so stay tuned for more!
Kudos to our reader Metal Messiah for bringing this to our attention.
Thanks OC3D

Please let the memory be fast…
I’m wondering about the “bandwidth” value as well.
Pretty interesting. However check this out… I did not think it could be done since nobody has done it with MKX… Yet MK11 has a 60 fps mod… That works. https://youtu.be/pXo51gTGKDs
Awesome ? , this is going to be epic on my 3x 1080p 5760×1080 setup!
[ Update ] just tried the mod and it is incredible and everything works perfectly now!

Massive thanks John Mellinger for the heads up, I appreciate it.
This is actually an Engineering TEST board/sample, by the way. Not the final PCB, IMO.
My guess is that the DIE size should be roughly between 280 mm2 and 320 mm2 range, though 290 seems more reasonable, IMO.
Since they have removed the HBM/HBCC, so some room is there. I’m expecting RTX 2070 level perf at the max, if not then RTX 2060. But again, this is just a speculation.
Also, unlike TURING, for Ray tracing, AMD would actually need to do the BVH portion on GPGPU also, which is possible, but it will require a lot of brute force power. This is assuming NAVI has support for RT on the hardware level.
Thanks for sharing this new though.
.
Some more news on NAVI has been leaked.
AMD’s Navi GPUs Confirmed to Retain GCN Design It looks like GCN is here to stay, though this doesn’t surprise me. It was rumored before that NAVI would be the last GPU based on GCN arch.

doing RT on GPGPU will be suicide. yeah AMD GPU usually have more compute performance than nvidia equivalent but not significantly more. Radeon 7 for example did not have 4 times the compute performance of RTX 2080. if they at least have that much then they might able to compete with RTX with GPGPU alone.
Yup, I’ve read that article before. I’ve posted the link, but it’s under approval. Looks like GCN is here to stay.
i think it has been long known fact that Navi will be the last iteration of GCN before they move into completely new architecture design. but i see so many people are dying to see AMD to compete with nvidia that they hope Navi to be something else than GCN.
Indeed…
Get ready for the RX 680, yet another 480 refresh that keeps up with the price equivalent nvidia card while drawing twice the power.
AMD = “rebrand”, “refresh”, “re-brandeon”, “cut-down”, “mid-range”, “rinse and repeat”.
NVIDIA = “innovation”, “new architecture”, “high-end performance”, “new silicon chip”.
Yea Radeon isnt on my radar nearly as much as their CPU side of things. Im pretty excited for ryzen 3000 but Navi…more like Nah-vi.
honestly i can’t expect how this card will perform but i’m sure price wise it will be adjusted accordingly with nvidia performance/price instead of being nvidia killer like many hope it will be.
C’mon AMD, surprise us with a killer GPU!
