Unity Engine Megacity tech demo is now available for download

Back in October 2018, we informed you about an amazing tech demo for Unity. That demo showed what a cyberpunk/sci-fi game could look like in Unity and today, we are happy to report that the Megacity tech demo is available for download.

Megacity contains 4.5 million mesh renderers, 5000 dynamic vehicles and 200,000 unique building objects. The vehicles fly on spline-based traffic lanes, never colliding, and there are 100,000 unique audio sources, including neon signs, air-conditioning fans, and cars.

To produce this demo, Unity Engine tapped teams and technology across all of Unity R&D, including the latest features like nested Prefabs and the Scriptable Render Pipelines as well as many existing ones such as Scene editing, World-building, Cinemachine, and the Post-Processing Stack.

The Megacity tech demo is 7GB in size and you can download it from here.

Have fun everyone!

    1. It doesn’t actually need high end hardware. It’s really well optimized.

And this is an example used to push the Unity DOTS system to its limits. Normal games won’t be anywhere near this complex so the end user can just enjoy the performance benefits brought in from the tech used in this demo.

  1. This is truly pioneering work. The data structures to handle a scene like this must be extremely clever.

It’s kind of amazing how far Unity has come.
