Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands receives loot boxes, will be cosmetic-only

Ubisoft will release later today a new update for Ghost Recon Wildlands, called Extended Ops, that will add a new game mode, maps, skins, and… loot boxes. These loot boxes are called Battle Crates and according to the French company, they will be cosmetic-only.

According to its official FAQ, Battle Crates are designed to offer players an additional and accessible way to complete their cosmetic customization experience, for both the Campaign and Ghost War modes.

Once Extended Ops hits the Internet, all players will receive a gifted Spec Ops Crate and a gifted Ghost War Crate, which are redeemable on the Ubisoft Club. Battle Crates can then be purchased from the Store for 400 Store Credits, with each Battle Crate containing three items that you do not already own.

Spec Ops Crates will contain Epic Weapons, Exotic Weapons, Vehicles and tons of cosmetic items for you to enjoy even more in the whole Campaign mode. Ghost War Crates will contain Exotic Weapons (re-skinned versions of weapons already available in the game – no impact on the weapon stats), customization items and an exclusive new line of skins for your character, called Icons.

Ubisoft insists that these Battle Crates are cosmetic-only and will not give any gameplay advantage to players. Still, we are pretty sure that a lot of gamers will not welcome this form of loot boxes as Ghost Recon Wildlands is not a free-to-play title.
