The Evil Within 2 features a “hidden” and fully functional first-person perspective on the PC

The Evil Within 2 is the latest third-person horror title from Tango Gameworks. However, it appears that the PC version supports a ‘hidden’ first-person perspective. This perspective can be activated via the game’s console, and will let you experience the entire game in first-person mode.

We don’t know why Tango Gameworks left this mode in The Evil Within 2, however we consider this is an incredible easter egg. So, contrary to Resident Evil 7 that turned its back to the third-person mode, PC gamers can experience both perspectives in The Evil Within 2.

All you have to do is open the console and type “pl_FPS 1”. By doing this, you will enable the first-person mode. Players can aim, shoot, interact with the environments and do pretty much everything. And while this was not the “way the game was meant to be played“, it still is pretty cool.

In order to enable the in-game console, you’ll have to follow this guide:

  • Create a shortcut on your desktop and add: +com_allowconsole 1
  • Start the game from the shortcut
  • While in game, press the insert key to bring the console

As we’ve already stated, The Evil Within 2 suffers from optimization issues on the PC. Now this does not mean that the game runs worse on the PC than on consoles. If you have the hardware, the PC version performs and looks better. However, there is a lot of room for improvement here. So here is hoping that Tango Gameworks addresses them sooner than later. If it does, The Evil Within 2 will be a must-have game for fans of both first-person and third-person perspectives.

Below you can find a video showcasing The Evil Within 2 in first-person mode.

Enjoy!

    1. And you keep disappointing. It’s a shame your parents couldn’t have developed something better than a loser. The first person view on the other hand looks fantastic!

    2. Yes finished it 3 hours ago. Took me 12 hours on casual and killed most monsters! It was a great game!!!

  1. I am at chapter 12 and the FPS mode was used in one of the chapters hence why it was developed. It was basically a tight spot section where you had to wear a gas mask so they changed perspective.

      1. Hm, that would be a tricky question to answer actually dude. I personally love this game, I think some of the boss battles in this are really well made, and the animation makes everything so much more tense and brutal.

Like without spoilers, one of the boss fights involves this person looking around for you, and the way he moves and looks at thing trying to find you is uncanny and really cool.

I am a fan of the open world structure they have done, and there is a good amount of risk and reward with how certain side missions are presented. Like you know how in most games you just do the side missions for stuff, and not feel much of the risk reward, but with a horror game it fixes that problem because you’d be like holy cr** do I want to go to that dark little looking corner, what if something jumps at me?

Furthermore, I am so glad they have removed the revolver as a main weapon, as I have never been a huge fan of them in horror games. There is no need to give me slow and clunky weapons, so now Sebastian carries around a handgun which improves shooting as a whole. It doesn’t feel as unfair as now. Then when you take in all the weapons with the crossbolt used for traps and what not, whenever you manage to get out of a sticky situation using everything at your disposal, the game makes you feel smart, I feel like I have done that and outwitted my enemies.

The stealth has been improved and they have taken away that god awful mechanic where sebastian just stopped when he ran out of breath, and other gimmicky features. Now it feels like a proper game.

I personally really enjoyed the story in the first one, not the cliche lunatic part but the whole conspiracy aspect of it, and this one plays more on that.

Besides Sebastian has always been a refreshing change in a sea of lame horror heroes. Other heroes are usually like scared and stuff but I like how Sebastian is always like, “wait till I get my hands on you”, so I am really liking the story so far.

Oh and the creepiest, most scariest things (one even Sebastian tries to avoid) only appears through side missions or when you explore more of the game, which is so cool.

So depending on what I think I guess you can kinda see what it is like? I mean you can probably try it out or something somehow, get a feel? I personally think its a refreshing change of pace and feels like innovative horror. Believe it or not this horror game is actually easy to get lost into (shocking).

    1. He’s referring to the article stating “We don’t know why Tango Gameworks left this mode in”, when anyone who has played the game knows exactly why the FPS mode is in there.

      1. He is a dolt who complains all the time about stupid sheet but sucks off japanese games that have not been patched yet.

  2. I like the position of the camera, it is proper located compared with most FPS where it looks like that the head (or the eyes) is in the chest and not where the actual head is.

  3. Knew that was possible since there was perfectly playable 1st person segment in game. Didn’t know all models were present as well. This is awesome.
