Chrono Trigger fans, here is something for you today. YouTube’s ‘NOBL Games’ is working on a fan remake of the classic SNES JRPG, Chrono Trigger, in Unreal Engine 5.
This fan remake reimagines the classic top-down JRPG as a third-person RPG. As such, it can give you an idea of what a modern-day remake of it could have looked like.
In this first video, NOBL Games showcases the new 3D design for Crono, as well as the Millennial Fair area. In future videos, the YouTuber will remake and showcase even more areas from the game. And I can’t wait to see what the other locations can look like in UE5.
Like most fan remakes, this is created for portfolio purposes. In other words, there is no link to download it. There are also no plans to ever release this fan remake to the public. That’s a bummer, but hey, it is what it is.
Since this is created by a single person, you should also keep your expectations in check. This won’t blow you away. For a one-man project, though, it does look great.
It’s a shame Square Enix has not remade Chrono Trigger. Ideally, I’d want a full 3D remake similar to that of Final Fantasy 7. This classic deserves to be played by all younger players. However, I can see why a full 3D remake could not be possible. After all, this isn’t FF7. But an HD-2D remaster would work well. It could make the game look better while still keeping the original feel, pleasing both new and old fans.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive.
In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a remaster of Unreal Gold and a cool fan remake of Doom 3. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears. Moreover, here is a fantastic fan remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground also have some awesome fan remakes. There’s even a fan remake of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation that features Angelina Jolie and Christoph Waltz. But that’s not all. Fans have also made remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. And if you love Zelda, there’s a really cool Studio Ghibli-style teaser for Ocarina of Time made in Unreal Engine 5. Oh, and there’s a video showing MGS2’s iconic intro in UE5.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

"Someone has made a demo for fun and i will make a clickbait title out of it by calling it a remake, or maybe i just don't know the difference… " John
someone is doing something useless so what?
i know right, i am familiar with that "someone" guy's work, he never finsihed any of these remakes, check the site, there are lots of articles on that guy.
Remake slopheads will take anything because they can't let go of their nostalgia until the corporate joins in on the soiling.
Would it be ironic if that happened to something as obscure as Arfenhouse?
The problem with such remakes is that they always feel like very personal visions.
2D is aging very well for one reason: it leaves lots of room for imagination.
And I always imagined Chrono Trigger in my own world, with my own preferences.
Well, same for every 2D game I ever played, really.
It's a personal thing, and that's why 2D will NEVER die, really.
And that is also why 3D remakes are usually good for new young gamers, not for oldies like me. I'll always live with my own vision of Chrono Trigger in my mind, and anyone else's different vision would ruin mine.
What I see in this video is way too different from what I had in mind back then.
Finally…
God, it's true that all games are starting to look the same.
The scene at 13:34 could have been taken literally from ANY recent RPG, really.
This wasn't the case back when we had 2D games, or even 90s-2000s 3D games.
Realism is great, but the one major drawback is that it killed originality.
IMO, all 3D remakes of old pixelated ("2D") games should look exactly like whatever old official content (artworks, concept arts, 3D figures, or perhaps in-game animated cutscenes, etc.) that was made at the time of the original game without altering it, and no matter whatever bullshit reason they come up with for "mUh nEw aRt dIrEcTiOn!" is never justified.
For example, Zelda Link's Awakening on the Switch looks like just your average generic cringe chibi shit that appeals exactly to these low IQ subhuman pRedditors, when in reality the original game on the Game Boy in its few animated cutscenes looked nowhere near chibi shit like that, but they just had to do it anyway to appeal to these low IQ subhuman pRedditors.
But if Jewtendo were to remake like EarthBound (of course they won't, these elitist arrogant fucks just never listen to their fans [even dedicated ones and not these stupid, toxic and brain dead kiddies who childishly shill for them day and night on the internet] and don't care about that franchise anymore despite the huge demand for a remake), it should look exactly like the 3D figures of the characters, as they already look like in Smash.
I constantly hear these low IQ subhuman pRedditors spewing that if they were to remake it (more like demake it nowadays), it should look like Link's Awakening, and my answer to these low IQ subhumans is "kindly fuck off 🖕🏻"
Couldn't agree more with you. Nintendo is like modern disney, every new movie has the same damn 3D style, nothing feels new or fresh or unique. They all feel a product of a heartless industrial process and it sucks.
Exactly. Jewtendo is just like the modern (((Disney))) of video games. I would say that the only difference between them for now is that Jewtendo haven't openly unleashed their Satanic propaganda to sodomize children as much as what the modern (((Disney))) did yet.
Their biggest source of income nowadays is relying on pointless and unnecessary (((demasturds))) that literally nobody on the face of the Earth even asked for them in the first place while making sure to censor every single paragraph containing the words "male" and "female" in them so that the overly sensitive trannies who openly hate video games don't hang themselves when they see these words in a gayme that they are never going to play or even hear about it.
And then their second biggest source of income is of course nothing other than unjustly suing everyone to death to steal millions from their money like the mafia thieves they are in their true reality.
They look the same because almost all games are made in UE5, it have nothing to do with realism
And he's wasting his time a*s fock.
IIRC there was a Chrono Trigger fan remake in the works decades ago which was going to be done in Unreal Engine 2 but it got C&D'd by squeenix, so if this actually ends up being a full project square will probably C&D this too.
EDIT okay the video title got changed to NOT A REAL GAME. This was a waste of time.
shout out to buddy but i'd think a one of the hdmakes that square has been pumping would have been a cooler project.
Not worth a comment much less an article
They took the name of a masterpiece and pasted it on some generic ue slop. Nothing of note was added and none of the originality was kept. These "remakes"should not be celebrated.
It's a boring weeaboo game with cringe characters made by the same overrated artist Akira Toriyama.
10/10 – That is some top-notch trolling. And look at that: You even threw in a bunch of canned cliches to avoid giving an initial impression of offering thoughtful, articulate criticism!
Found the degenerate weeaboo soyboy with almost 0 testosterones who masturbates to anime lolis and shotas.
Ehh… you're just not 90's kid enough to appreciate Toriyama's work. I can doubly say that for your usage of the overrated and overused "insult" of weeaboo.
Unfortunaley for you, you'll find it hard to offend an old sport like me, because this UE5 garbage irks me more than anything else out of your mouth.
I know that my comment triggered you so much that you had to comment on this site once again just so you could reply to me despite not commenting on DSOGaming for years now.
"Unfortunaley for you, you'll find it hard to offend an old sport like me" That's a very ironic thing to say because I was replying to this weeb soyboy and yet that triggered you so much that it didn't stop you from replying to my comment that wasn't even talking about you out of the pure rage and explosions in yourself.
Relax, no need to try to hide that tissue, sweetie. It's already more than obvious how my comment triggered you so hard.
Hahaha! Whatever, kid. I’ve already said my piece.
C'mon dude, you recommended i play Omori of all games!! I don't know if the creator is a trans or a female, but he/she is an "degener@te wee@boo" according to you.
(Weird, I didn't get a notification of this comment, I only saw it upon looking back at the article)
I know that I said that, but I also said that I'm definitely not the world's #1 "weeb hater" either as hating weeb things is not uncommon.
IMO, I'm OK with anime with characters that look like Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, Detective Conan, etc. (I personally only saw these long ago when they were on TV, never saw them again)
But I just can't stand pure soy shit like Genshit Impact, Lucky Star, Fire Emblem and some other extremely soy weeb material like them that I won't bother to name. These 2 just make me outright want to gouge my eyes out just by looking at them.
And just FYI, I'm not the only one who shares this type of opinion that, while generally dislikes soy anime material with that "stereotypical anime girl" like Genshit Impact, not all anime is bad. In fact, I've encountered someone on another site replying to me who also shares the same opinion that, while he dislikes soy anime that look like these, he doesn't hate all anime.
This is what he wrote in the comment "I'm also not into modern soynime, its all garbage. I like old Anime celshaded ones more and I like characters like Golgo 13, Kenshiro from Fist of North Star and the superb style of Kawajiri, Yoshiaki's art like Ninja Scroll and etc over the overrated bullshit works of Studio Ghibli").

IMO, I'm OK with an anime or game with characters that look like Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, Detective Conan, etc. and as you can already tell, Omori. (The 3 former aforementioned anime are just things I saw when they were on TV long ago, never saw them again).

OK, but you where bashing Akira Toryiama, who makes manly anime like Dragon Ball, not those “slice of life” girly animes.
Dragon Ball isn’t that bad honestly, but Chrono Trigger looks soy-ish IMO, and Akira Toriyama’s fans have largely exaggerated on his legacy to the point that it made him so annoying to me after he died.
Chrono Trigger definitely lives up to the hype.
You do you 🙂
Time travelling fantasy adventure beats high budget depression quest imo.
If Chrono Trigger hadn't been in Toriyama's style, it might have not played out as well in looks or theme. It's like I said earlier about Cyan. Not 90's kid enough. Throwing out insults like soy and weeb just show the generational type, which narrows down how old they are.
You had to grow up with it to be able to appreciate it. They probably don't even like Blue Dragon!
Regarding "I don't know if the creator is a trans or a female," on Omori; its developer, Omocat, is indeed a girl and not a troony. She made streams where you can clearly hear that her voice is a girl (as well as other sources that I forgot about that makes it clear that she is a girl). We don't know what she looks like IRL because she is intentionally hiding her identity (a wise thing to do especially in the digital age actually).
NGL, her OC that she made to represent herself on streams does look pretty soy though 🤣🤮
I don’t know if i could tell just by the voice, which can be altered via software.
“(Weird, I didn’t get a notification of this comment, I only saw it upon looking back at the article)”
Probably Johnny soy word filter.
Looks awful. More awful than those OoT x Ghibli """tributes"""
A Square-Enix DMCA might be a necessary evil in this case.
Uhh, ew? This looks awful. Ruins the whole vibe, this looks nothing like the bright and charming Akira Toriyama art. Chrono trigger does not need a remake. The original exists
Chrono Trigger should never be remade in UE5
Nothing should be made in UE5.
So as others stated another I started a project upto a alpha release then quite and make another one like Superman, matrix, hulk, Zelda, now Chrono Trigger, next will be final Fantasy you watch start and stop never Finish really brings the Duke Nukem Vibes of DNF (Did Not Finish).
I don't want a remake of this game. Certainly not in 3D or UE5.
this look as cringeworthy as the people doing cosplay of anime characters.
