Cyberpunk 2077 gets a brand new Ray Tracing PC trailer

CD Projekt RED and NVIDIA have released a new Ray Tracing PC trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. As the title suggests, this trailer showcases the Ray Tracing effects that the game will feature on the PC.

CD Projekt RED will be using Ray Tracing for Diffuse Illumination, Ambient Occlusion, Reflections and Shadows. The game will also take advantage of DLSS 2.0. Thus, NVIDIA owners will be able to enable it and enjoy higher framerates without major image losses.

As we’ve already reported, its latest preview build ran with 60fps at 1080p with Ray Tracing and DLSS. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the game will run on NVIDIA’s Ampere RTX30 series GPUs.

Below you can also find more details about the game’s Ray Tracing effects.

Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing Features

  • Ray-Traced Diffuse Illumination. This captures sky radiance as well as emissive lighting from various surfaces, which is difficult to achieve with traditional rendering techniques. When enabled, billboards and other illuminated surfaces and objects will brighten their surroundings with naturally colored lighting. The sun and moon will also realistically illuminate Night City.
  • Ray-Traced Reflections. In Cyberpunk 2077, ray-traced reflections are used on all surfaces. These reflections can trace ranges for up to several kilometers, enabling realistic reflections across vast view distances. They are present on both opaque and transparent objects and surfaces to simulate the way light reflects from glossy and metal surfaces by tracing a single bounce of reflection rays against the scene.
  • Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion. Ambient occlusion is a shading and rendering technique used to calculate how exposed each point in a scene is to ambient lighting. This results in the rendering of new AO shadows that ground objects and naturally darken surfaces, objects, and other game elements. In Cyberpunk 2077, ray-traced ambient occlusion can be used with local lights to approximate local shadowing effects where shadows are missing, greatly improving the quality of the ambient occlusion effect.
  • Ray-Traced Shadows. Ray tracing enables developers to bring pixel-perfect shadows to games, free from the compromises and limitations of shadow maps. In Cyberpunk 2077, directional shadows from sun and moon light are added to the game, based on the strength of light, scattering of light through clouds, and other factors.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on November 19th and will be a DX12-only game. The game will also put a lot of emphasis on environmental destruction.

Enjoy!

  1. The only thing this game has got right so far is creating hype and making sure that it’s going to be a tech demo for the RTX cards.

    1. Can’t agree more. Doesn’t look fun to play. Doesn’t look like it runs well. Probably will launch riddled with issues too.

      1. So you already know it will have technical issues? You looked into your crystal ball, or you just hope so?

It’s actually amusing to see how badly some people want this game to tank, for whatever reasons.
My prediction – it’s going to be a big hit, a blockbuster.

        1. History repeats itself. Not to mention the infinite string of delays. There are signs. Realistically not expecting issues is a bit silly given the dev teams track record.

          1. Yeah, there’s no such thing as “bug-free game”, but I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a big problem at launch.
Looks like these guys want to give us the best game they could, but we can only hope for now. Time will tell us.

        2. Name any AAA game that doesnt need a day 1 patch or doesnt have issues…
Also, your prediction…wow, we have a Nostradamus here…the game has been hyped up for 7 years….of course it will sell fine, even if is crap.

          1. You’re correct, most games have some issues after the release, especially games as big as Cyberpunk.
But “riddled with issues” means “full of issues”, in case you didn’t know.

As for predictions, dirthurts thinks (hopes?) the game will be crap full of issues. I say, based on CDPR record, it will be well polished and well-received. We’ll find out who is better prophet soon enough.

          2. “riddled with issues” means “full of issues”are still an issue, in a game with the budget this has, after so many delays…i will expect a fairly clean experience on launch. It won’t happen, like it or not.
Your faith in this baffles me.

          1. I never preorder. I always wait for reviews, and if the reviews are not so positive, I either wait for a sale, or pass on.

    2. Since nobody knows if the game is going to be good or not, you’re just showing what you want it to be, and then being aroused by the eco of your own words through your head.
I hope this can be good af, but I don’t guess, I’ll wait and see for myself.

    1. Can’t you see the LGBT Rainbow flag skin over the flying vehicle? That just proves just how serious they are about their “staying true to the source material” and not appealing to sheepy consumers with cheap tactics.

    2. For me, the most depressing thing is that you see 5 cars on a rotonda…isnt that a megacity? where’s everybody? it looks empty and lifeless…GTA V has more density of pedestrians and cars…i bet the game won’t even have animals.

      1. Its very common for open world games, though on PC GTA games usually had settings for things like vehicle and pedestrian density. Maybe this will have that also.

        1. But that footage was on PC with the max settings…also, i dunno how common that setting you think it is, i can only remember GTA IV and V (Sleeping Dogs? honestly dont remember) having pedestrian and vehicles density

      2. @juanmas7er:disqus I spot 11 cars in that “rather small” roundabout. So I don’t know what you’re talking about.

          1. People take turns going into a roundabout you know, perhaps you would have known that if you actually had a drivers licence… Now crawl back under your rock you imbecile.

      3. I hope there’s an explanation for animals being extinct or something like in original Blade Runner. BUT still the world in Blade Runner had artificial animals that were indistinguishable from the real ones.

    3. LGBT flying cars, ahaha.
I bet this is why the second delay… it didn’t pass the social justice great filter, yet.

  2. Such a funny coincidence, both CP2077 & WD:Legion, released new trailers with brand new & heavier RT effects (older trailers had a lot lighter Ray Tracing), just the day of Nvidia’s series 3xxx official revealing. I was sure both games will be run fine on series 2xxx, with DLSS/RT. Now? Not so sure.. After all, nvidia need to push forward to sell 3070/80/90, and i’m sure, some dev’s will touch the honeypot.

  3. I just want an extremely detailed futuristic world in VR to live out my dreams, choices and life. This does not look like it.

  4. DSOG is one of the best websites exactly for the reasons you mentioned.
They’re not negative, they’re just not following the herd, and they’re often politically incorrect. I feel there’s more freedom of speech here than many other websites.

    1. These people just want to hear what pleases them.
If something they like gets criticized, they assume you’re just a hater that doesn’t know what’s good or not. You can’t have an opinion, you need to follow the herd.
You’re correct about DSOG, and we have to thank John (and whomever works with him) for this freedom they give us here.

  5. Graphics are great for sure, but let wait & see when it will be out… The gameplay is the most important part…

  6. Finally something I can agree with!

DSOG comment section is the most negative and bitter I have seen in a long time.

NOTHING seems to make these people happy, there’s always something completely wrong.

I’m a really negative person myself but holy sh*t this comment section is a cesspit on every article.

    1. Coming from a crowd that was NEVER happy with “racist bigoted” games, “oversaturated with white male characters”.

  7. The reason why is on the surface really – most other news sites are shilling for those game companies one way or another because they want to get the review copies and get invited to special events by the studios. Whereas DSOG doesn’t have that concern which is why the comment section for the most part is populated by people with critical thinking.

Hence DSOG is not a circle-jerk unlike any other media outlet that’s covering Cyberpunk or any other anticipated game for that matter.
