This is what a Pokemon game would look like in Unreal Engine 3

We seriously can’t believe there is noone taking advantage of Unreal Engine 3 (and CryEngine 3). Okay, there are plenty of UE3 games but when was the last time you saw something unique? Something out of the ordinary? Something besides another brown-ish shooter game? Something like Mirror’s Edge perhaps? Well, time for a slight change. Christian Davis, Associate Environment Artist at Junction Point Studios, has created a high quality model of the Blastoise Pokemon. Naturally, Davis felt the need to test his model on UDK and the following image was the result of that. And damn, does this looks impressive. Davis used UDK’s Foliage Showcase, which means that all assets other than Blastoise and the pokeball are property of Epic Games. Enjoy! Epic Games and Giant IronHorse release a new Unreal Engine 3 DirectX 11 Benchmark

Epic Games and Giant IronHorse released a new, DX11 benchmark tool for Unreal Engine 3. This demo is from the Chinese game ‘Passion Leads Army’ that is developed by Giant IronHorse and showcases PhysX effects, tessellation, Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion (HBAO), and Bokeh Depth of Field, and all DX11 features that are supported by this game. Renegade X: Black Dawn is now available; C&C Renegade in Unreal Engine 3

Great news for all Command & Conquer fans as Renegade X: Black Dawn is now available. Renegade X: Black Dawn is a standalone game, powered by Epic Game’s Unreal Development Kit, that is inspired by Westwood’s ‘Command & Conquer: Renegade’, thus bringing the world of Command  & Conquer to a new level. Renegade X, in general, is a tactical First Person  Shooter with RTS elements, featuring two unique factions, each with  distinctive weapons and vehicles. Black Dawn is its free, standalone, short 1-2 hour singleplayer campaign that the team has been preparing for quite some time now. Square Enix Licenses Unreal Engine 3 For Multiple Games

Epic Games announced today an agreement with Square Enix. Epic Games will be granting Square Enix a license to develop multiple games with Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 technology. Epic Games Japan, which supports the company’s licensees locally, worked directly with Square Enix on the new license. And here comes the big question; what happened to the next-generation engine that Square Enix was working on? And why won’t the giant Japanese company use the in-house engine for their games? Unreal Engine is still the best according to Epic’s CEO

Well, it was to be expected. After all these years, the fight between Crytek and Epic Games is still strong. And according to Mark Rein, Epic Games’ CEO, the Unreal Engine is still the best engine ever. During his latest interview with EDGE, Mark laughed and prompted to skip the question about whether he’s getting fed up with being asked about Crytek’s CryEngine. Gorgeous Unreal Engine 3 Foliage Screenshot

Senior public relations manager for Epic Games, Dana Cowley, shared on her Tweeter a new screenshot that showcases Unreal 3 Engine’s new foliage system. And we have to say that it looks great. The lighting system and TOD also look better from everything we’ve ever seen so far from this engine, although we’d wish that Cowley would release a higher resolution screenshot of it.
