At this year’s Gamescom, Cloud Imperium showcased the highly anticipated alpha 3.0 version of Star Citizen, and below you can find a video showing 45 minutes of gameplay footage from it. Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 will feature planetary landings, persistent universe content, a new back-end item system, implementation of commodities, trading, automated cargo buy/sell kiosks, and, indirectly, piracy, as well as network improvements and user interface enhancements. Cloud Imperium has revealed that the highly anticipated alpha 3.0 release of Star Citizen has been delayed to September. While this build was said to be released in August, Cloud Imperium decided to delay it in order to further optimize it and address some stability issues. Star Citizen will support the Vulkan API and will eventually drop DirectX 11 support
Cloud Imperium’s Alistair Brown has revealed that Star Citizen will support the Vulkan API – instead of DirectX 12 – in the near future. As Brown claimed, Cloud Imperium will be using Vulkan as it is available on all the latest Windows operating system and sports the same feature set and performance advantages of DX12.
