Mike Capps Steps Down as President of Epic Games

Man, seems that Epic is undergoing a lot of changes. Think about it; after Cliff Bleszinski’s retirement, it’s time for Mike Capps to step down and handle off his current presidential duties at Epic. It’s ironic, but these two people were among those who made Epic what it was back in the golden days. Guru programming – and founder – Tim Sweeney remains on board, but we are really curious to see what will happen with Epic Games and whether those retirements will be a good thing for PC gamers or not. Ah, the good old classic Unreal. Such an amazing experience, even for today’s standards. Actually, in some ways its better than today’s games, given the fact that it is not as a scripted mess as most modern-day FPS titles. On the other hand, the storytelling is awful but who really cares, right? Back then it was all about the eyecandy graphics, the incredible AI, the mesmerizing levels, the gorgeous characters and the combat mechanics. In a Reddit AMA, Cliff Bleszinski revealed that he would love to return to Na Pali and get involved in a new Unreal game. Although Epic is not currently working on something like that, Cliff felt the need to describe what an Unreal reboot would look like. Unreal Engine 4 – New Screenshots From SIGGRAPH 2012

Epic Games has released the SIGGRAPH 2012 tech presentation of Unreal Engine 4 and as you may have guessed, this presentation includes some new screenshots from Epic’s next-generation engine. Below, you can find screenshots that showcase Interactive Indirect Illumination and Ambient Occlusion Using Voxel Cone Tracing, Voxel Lighting, Area Light Specular, IB Lens Flares, Reflections, Shadows that receive Translucency, Volumetric direct and indirect lighting, and one million particles on screen. In addition, the presentation claims that the Elemental Tech Demo was running on a single GTX680 at 1080p with 30fps (and not 60fps as we were told back in E3). Enjoy!
