Modder Slav released today his single-player mod for iD Software’s little gem, Doom 3. ‘Torn’ is a single-player dark-fantasy modification for Doom 3. Its gameplay consists mainly of first-person puzzle solving with some action and platforming mixed in. Great news for all those Thief fans out there as the team behind the astounding ‘Thief Mod’ for Doom 3 has just rolled out a new, massive update for it. The Dark Mod version 1.7 is now available and can be either downloaded from the tdm_update.exe file, or by visiting its ModDB Page. This new update comes with lots of features, such as: international language localization support for missions, translated HUD, GUI and Menus, vine Arrows, and new combat animations and sounds. At long last, the source code of Doom 3 has finally been released. The source is available for download from various sources and does not contain – obviously – any game data as the game data is still covered by the original EULA and must be obeyed as usual. Well looky here, we got us a new Doom 3 mod. Doom 3 HD Mod is a promising graphical mod that is essential to pretty much every Doom 3 fan. This mod features 50% of in-game textures that are replaced with high resolution textures – up to 2048x2048px – while the rest have increased contrast and roughness, NPC models with high-poly analogues, weapons and other models of contrast and detail in increased capacity, widescreen support, increased number of shadows that are being casted by the game’s locations, new special effects like explosions, strikes of bullets, blood stains, as well as new effects engine, such as anti-aliasing of reflections, HDR, motion blur, soft shadows and other small, juicy, details. Great news for everyone as John Carmack informed us – via its Twitter account – that Doom 3’s source code is packaged and fully tested. iD Software is now waiting on the final lawyer clearance and the package will then get released. This basically means that the source code will come out in the coming days and we can’t wait to see what the modding and indie developers will come up with. Mars City Security is a Doom 3 mod that adds a CoOp mode and promises to take Doom3’s Coop experience to the next Generation and beyond. This mod is developed by Scared Pixel Studios and doesn’t have any release date as of yet. However, the team has been posting updates about its progress and they’ve just announced today the implementation of a fully multiplayer compatible time of day system for the MCS gametype “DemonWars”. Let’s be honest here, we are really put off by RAGE’s graphics quality. Even with all the tweaks to avoid the annoying texture pop-in, the game suffers from really low-quality textures. Add to that the pre-baked shadows, old-generation shaders and limited dynamic lighting and you get a game that could be easily released several years ago. Doom 3: Phobos is a 1 episode project which continues the story in Doom 3 and it is set in between Doom 3 and its expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. This time around, Wulfen tweaked a lot of the textures’ difuses and the end result is simply mind-blowing.
