Battlefield 4 v5

You’ve heard about Mantle and how it will boost the performance of AMD’s cards on Battlefield 4, right? Well, today we get a glimpse of what we can expect from that low-level API. According to AMD, Battlefield 4’s demo (at its recent AMD event) was running on a single R9 290X card at 5760×1080 (though it has not been confirmed whether it was running with constant 60fps. We should note that we did not notice any slowdowns, so we are most probably looking at a 60fps gameplay heaven). AMD and DICE reveal Mantle, low-level graphics API for Radeon cards, offering 9X better performance

Battlefield 4 v5

DICE’s Johan Andersson revealed today that AMD and DICE are working on a low-level high-performance graphics API for Radeon cards, called Mantle. According to AMD, Mantle offers up to 9X more draw calls per second than other APIs by reducing CPU overhead. This is crucial as according to Johan, this API will be able to finally offer PC gamers proper multi-tasking scaling on the CPU without the need to handle all the background draw calls that the original, old model, requires. Battlefield 4 – PC System Requirements Revealed, Will Not Support Windows XP

Battlefield 4 v2

DICE has revealed the official requirements for its upcoming first person shooter title, Battlefield 4. According to the team, PC gamers will at least need 4GB of RAM, a dual-core CPU, 30GB of free HDD and a GTX 8800GT (or an AMD Radeon HD3870). What’s interesting here is that Battlefield 4 will not support Windows XP (and most probably there won’t be any DX9 path for it). Not only that, but DICE recommends an Intel quad-core CPU (or an AMD six-core) for its shooter. The crucial thing here is that DICE did not suggest an I7, which could mean that Frostbite 3 may take full advantage of quad-core CPUs. Battlefield 4 is planned for an October 31st release and you can view the complete list for its PC requirements after the jump.
