Splitgate 2 feature-2

Splitgate 2 has been released as a free to play game

1047 Games has released its free-to-play sci-fi online portal shooter, Splitgate 2. Splitgate 2 is the follow-up to 2021’s viral FPS hit. At the Summer Game Fest 2025, the devs revealed a new Battle Royale mode that is playable at launch. To celebrate this announcement, the team also shared a new trailer that you can find below.

Blending FPS mechanics with game-changing portals, Splitgate 2 launches with tons of modes across tons of maps, tons of new weapons, and the all-new Battle Royale mode.

Splitgate 2’s Battle Royale mode supports up to 60 players and an expansive, interconnected map. As with all Battle Royale modes, it will drop you to the map and it will be up to you climb the ranking and win the match.

1047 Games plans to also implement mastery challenges and ranked mode in the coming weeks, as well as new maps, POI changes, map reskins, and other surprises.

Splitgate 2 launched with Mixed reviews on Steam. A lot of the players are not happy with the game’s Battle Royale mode. A lot say that despite its marketing campaign, Splitgate 2 tries to mimick other FPS titles. I personally don’t get the frustration. It’s not like the devs have dumbed down the gameplay for a modern audience. The game still has arena matches, and it will get more free content in the next couple of months. But hey, people need to constantly complain about everything.

All I’m saying is that players have been b*tching about devs releasing COD clones. Players have been screaming about an arena shooter. Well, here is one. Yes, it has a Battle Royale mode. But, it also comes with Team Deathmatch, Arena, Takedown, Onslaught, Hotzone, and more. So, if you prefer the arena modes, you can… you know… play them? Unless, of course, there is no crowd for these modes. In that case, this isn’t the devs’ fault.

Anyway, as I said, you can try it yourselves. All you have to do is download it from this link. Right now, Splitgate 2 has 25K players online. So, it will be interesting to see whether that number will go up during the weekend, and whether it will manage to keep a healthy fanbase.

Stay tuned for more!
