New Silent Hill 2 Remake Mod Improves Reflections and Lighting

NexusMods’ member ‘Wolfic’ has released a must-have config file for Silent Hill 2 Remake. This “mod” aims to fix the awful lighting noise and improve the quality of lighting and reflection on rough surfaces.

Wolfic made a number of cool changes in this mod. He improved how light bounces around in the game. He also reduced the grainy noise from ray tracing, especially inside buildings and on rough surfaces. On top of that, he removed the Vignette effect, making the game look sharper and clearer.

The modder made these changes for when Ray Tracing is turned on. So, for the best results, you should enable Ray Tracing. These upgrades might also work a little with Software Lumen, but it’s not guaranteed.

To showcase these visual improvements, Wolfic shared the following comparison screenshots. And, as you can see, the modded version looks way better than the vanilla. Reflections look better and more stable now. The lighting is also more stable and less grainy. In other words, this isn’t a “placebo mod.” This does improve the game’s graphics.

You can download the mod from this link. To install it, just unzip the file and put it in this folder:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\SilentHill2\Saved\Config\Windows. And that’s it. To uninstall it, you’ll simply have to delete it.

Speaking of Silent Hill 2, PC gamers can remove the 30fps cap from the in-engine cutscenes by using this mod. Then we have this mod that removes the “hero” light from James and Maria. Another cool mod is this one, which removes the iconic fog from the game. Owners of a VR headset can use this mod to play the game in first-person and with VR support. Finally, you can download these mods to improve the 3D models of Angela and Maria.

Sadly, the PC version still has stuttering issues when moving around. Bloober Team hasn’t made any big improvements to fix this since the game launched. That’s a shame because Silent Hill 2 Remake is a great game. A powerful PC can help reduce the stutters, but it won’t get rid of them completely.

I just hope that when Cronos: The New Dawn and the Silent Hill Remake come out, they will run better on PC. Both games will use a newer version of Unreal Engine 5. So, let’s hope Bloober Team has learned from the problems with Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
