RiME appears to be suffering from major optimization issues on the PC

A lot of PC gamers rejoiced when Tequila Works announced that its single-player puzzle adventure, RiME, would be coming to the PC. However, it appears that the PC version of RiME suffers from major optimization issues.

While there are also reports that the game has performance issues on PS4 too, we will focus on the PC version (because… you know… we are a PC gaming website).

According to a lot of Steam reports, RiME is unable to run with a stable 60fps even on high-end PC systems that are equipped with NVIDIA latest graphics card, the GeForce GTX1080Ti.

Not only that, but the game suffers from major stuttering issues (as showcased by YouTube’s ‘soralapio’).

Rime's PC Version is a mess

Tequila Works suggested PC gamers to reduce AA to FXAA or TXAA as the game’s Ultra settings enable SSAA. However, numerous gamers with high-end GPUs (like NVIDIA’s GTX1080Ti, GTX 980 Strix and Titan X) were unable to avoid frame drops below 60fps. Not only that, but some players with high-end GPUs were unable to get a constant 60fps experience even on Low settings.

RiME is powered by Unreal Engine 4, making it the second UE4-powered game that is plagued by major optimization/performance issues (Inner Chains was also plagued by similar issues).

It will be interesting to be see whether QLOC, the team responsible for the PC version, will be able to address these optimization issues!

    1. It will still end up being better. Can you imagine? Worst case scenario and it will still be leagues ahead of your PotatoeStation.

Incredible how the only way a console even comes close is by gimping the best platform. PC literally runs better with “its legs tied”. How pathetic. I wonder how low do you have to sink to delude yourself into thinking like a peasant like that.

      1. I still don’t understand why you people still have these stupid kids unblocked, if you want i could share you my list of blocks to shorten things. Whatever they say is worth less than 0, why keep responding to them

      2. im sure it will but buy the time it is fixed on pc you could have already beat it on console..lol.

        1. Worst than you can beat it on PC now. That’s what your skewed perceptions isn’t allowing you to see. You can play the game now Better on PC (well, you can’t). The game is not optimal for the PC community. For consoles is bloody fantastic.

    2. bayonetta was on pc too, vanishing of ethan carter was on pc too, everybody gone to the rapture was on pc too, preys was on pc too. The devs just suck.

    3. because its crap but wait for e3 the first real native 4k console will be shown.its ok for pc gamers to be scared when a $500 console does native 4k..lol

      1. a 4k console the xbox scoripo is about to be launched and 80% if not more of pc gamers are 1080p..lol.

watch e3 and i cant wait for the whining to start.

a native 4k consoles about to be shown for way less then a $1500 pc…lol.

  1. Well they should’ve never released that game in this state. No excuses.

    1. The fact that they said they will remove denuvo if the game gets cracked kinda confirms denuvo messes with performance

      1. IMHO it’s just marketing gimmick or actually Denuvo has refund policy if they (D) do fail to protect product for initial window sale.

The real problem is within programmers / budget / time to market.

Programmers – mostly don’t have experience, they use Unity / UE etc. and really on these tools without applying optimisation for specific use cases etc. reason is of course budget none of experienced programmers will work cheap and if they do see ridiculous deadline they will also pass on such work.

Budget and time to market – lately I do get a feeling that they do release alpha version, see if this do meet minimal sales prediction (aka. if game do sale at all) and if yes then they start to finish product if not then just abandon it…

  2. Those issues are there to ensure the best gaming experiance. RiME is a very personal experiance told trough both by sight and sound. When the game is cracked the risk of modders removing those issues with the framerate and the stuttering is hurting the experiance. Tequila Works TM, wants to preserve this quality of the game for optimal peasant 30 fps experiance.

    1. You idiot can’t stop running in front of these “bullets” because, guess what, it runs better than the console. LOL The console version isn’t running well either. LOL
It doesn’t run “well” by OUR standards. You know who, the non-peasants who’s eyes can see more than 30 fps.

    2. lol they just dont even know do they.i cant wait for xbox scorpio to launch.i cant wait for e3 with 4k native games on xbox scorpio..lol

we can watch them squirm…lol.the sony show will be dealyed game trailers and trailers for games 4-5 year out.the pc show will be crap like the past 2 years and the xbox show will be the saving grace for e3…lol

      1. Same thing you said about XBONE before its release, same thing you will be saying when Scorpio 2 will be announced. Your eternal wait is what make you live, you are nothing without that, always waiting for a console that actually can beat the PC experience, this is not only about graphics…

        1. you know what i said 5 years ago maybe you should replace michael pachter that guy is a loon.

all the pc is for is esports and skin buying.dont you have some ships to buy or some crates to buy…..lmao.

        1. real native 4k games on a console while 80% of pc gamers are on 1080p.,pc gaming show is dog shi*.sony show is crap.

          xbox saves e3 this year.

    1. Little nightmares ran butter smooth, and that game looked great, but yeah i need to see more games in this engine.

  3. Don’t want to rain on your parade, but: 1) RiME is not on Xbox. 2) PS4 has performance issues too even though it’s locked (with framerate drops below) 30fps. 3) you can easily lock the framerate at 30fps on the PC and have a better gaming experience

    1. This is may be the first time you John(or the first time I see you did)that you actually respond to this troll or any other troll like walikor. Sadly this is the struggle many of us have to stand always because you dont ban anyone because you consider they arent actually infringing any rule. You should be thinking on new rules, it obvious that this guy even comes to lying just to salt the comment section.

  4. Well….

I was about to argue but i found nothing to tell.

    You’re right.

    🙁

  5. Smooth gameplay? I thought you said you’re a xbot…. Weird. Well, you may have terrible performance, but at least you have exclusives (C’mon…. this one was funny).

      1. Hahaha, a laptop I got 6 years ago for 500€ is better than your console. And you think it is better than a PC? You’re mistaken. You’re not an xbot, you’re a damn ostrich.

  6. Vanquish, by peasant standards is functioning like an unparalleled dream. The issue is that we (the PC community) actually have standards. And unlike you (peasants), we get up and fix it ourselves (Modding).

    1. #1 xbox has modding skyrim and fallout 4 same as pc.

#2 peasant you say?pc gamers dont pay for games with scum sites like g2a and cdkeys.com and steam.i guess you are to bysy buying ships and knives…lmao

#3 consoles will always have better optimization.and when xbox scorpio launches that will have native 4k games all pc will have is more fps and crappy esports.

      1. #1 EXTREMELY limited modding, 1 Gb of info and you cannot create assets outside the game (That’s right, no Randy Savage Dragon for you). And very little implementation.
#2 Peasants, I say. Although piracy is a thing (in consoles as well but lets leave it out for now), many of the times the people who pirate will buy the game(s) if they really like it. Those sites have scummy people, like everything open for use, but it is not the vast majority (although when devs get money from those sites, it usually isn’t very much due to the bulk sales of the keys and other practices), and devs get money from it (unless the keys are being sold by jerks who use stolen credit cards to get those keys…. if you do this, you’re a waste of perfectly decent oxygen). But do you know where devs get no money from? Used games. They get nothing from it and there are literally stores open making business . To save $5 in a game, console peasants deny a sale to the devs and go complain about piracy online. What morons.

#3 You dimwits must think that optimization is a 0 sum game. If consoles have it, nothing else can have it. And it is absurdly misguided and wrong. It really takes a long time to explain, but the gist is: PC has great optimization for gaming, from low level APIs to adaptive software to different hardware configurations. And console optimization is mostly ripping things from the game. Decals removed, drawing distance reduced, light effects removed, textures resized and an insane amount of blur effects. And with all of that out, it still runs worst than a PC. Want that level of “optimization” on PC? Because modders do that to games to get them (games like the Witcher 3) running on 10 year old laptops. And you’re deluded. A friend of mine complained about the price of PC and in 4 years, he bought 3 Xbox360. He played Mass Effect 3(dreadful game) in front of me and I saw the fps dip into the single digits when a explosion happened. Optimization? I prefer PC, at least I play the game extremely well, if not immediately then eventually. But consoles? If it’s bad, it is bad; done, nothing more to do there. And it is bad, very bad.

The problem with your continuously skewed view is that our standards are worlds apart. When we say it is bad, we don’t mean bad by your standards, we mean by ours. By console standards these games are more than excellent.
A person complains that Vanguard scales damage with frame rate on PC and you immediately scream “Ah, bad port!”; ignoring the fact that consoles can’t even afford high frame rate, so it is a disadvantage from that point alone; ignoring the fact that a solution for it will be online really fast by someone passionate about these things, while on consoles you’re stuck with whatever is shoved down your throat; ignoring the fact that even if you were to match the frame rate (although it is not good by our standards) PC still has a plethora of other improvements and optional features and content that outshine the console version by a lot. You’re just to stupid, incapable of understanding that “It is not good by our standards!” means “It the worst possible version EVER!”. You’re being disingenuous to others, or even worst, to yourself.

  7. But bro, the devs told be I’d be getting the best possible experience with Denuvo included. They said so, so it must be true.

  8. This is why I don’t touch a game for a minimum of three months, sometimes six. No way I pay full price to be a beta tester.

  9. Tequila Works claimed “we want to ensure the best gaming experience for RiME players” So we put Denuvo, and just to be clear we don’t give a damn about Optimization.

    1. Unless the game has some online functionality a la Dark Souls that excuse doesn’t make any sense, even then if the issue is solely with affecting the player experience it would make more sense to never have any DRM at all.
