Gamespot has shared a video, showing 8 minutes of gameplay footage from the PC version of Vanquish running at 1080p on Max settings with more than 60fps. Vanquish releases later today, so stay tuned for our PC Performance Analysis article (that will hopefully go live this weekend). Enjoy!

“Later today”
More like, 20 minutes & counting 😛
P.S. Gameplay video isn’t half-bad, looks like they got someone experienced, hallelujah.
Polygon plays Vanquish
Could you imagine :O
I know, right? Freaky.
The typical Polygon ‘journalist’ wouldn’t even get so far as playing Vanquish because they’d already be emotionally triggered by the inherent violence implied by the game’s title!
Nah that was an inexperienced gamer playing without a controller.
High hopes for this game!
I hate pre-orders as anyone, but these refund policies make it a little less terrible.
I bought it from a website, not the Steam store, so won’t be entitled to a refund in the unlikely event that Vanquish and Bayonetta run terribly on my PC.
Digital Foundry already has an analysis up, it’s a great port provided you have a midrange-ish machine.
Sweet! Thanks for the heads-up. They do a great job in showing the improved resolution, shadows, texture filtering, motion blur, ambient occlusion, anti-aliasing, FOV and of course frame-rate.
According to the pinned developer post in the Steam forums, default FOV is actually 80, not 40. But ya, they did a great job with the port if DF is anything to go by. Can’t wait to play it after work tonight!
Yep, that was Digital Foundry’s error that I’d quoted. They were spot-on re: its superb quality on PC.
Also with a controller……
What the f*ck is wrong with these people.
That is a bit of a downside. In a case like that, I always advise against pre-ordering.
Ditto. I don’t envisage doing otherwise again because Vanquish was, for me, a special case.
Likewise.
Don’t think we should do any exceptions, but it’s a buy for me if it’s well optimized. It’s an awesome game!
Just played it and are extremely impressed. Runs silky-smooth (not a single dropped frame from what I noticed) on my PC with all settings maxed including FOV at 100 via a command line prompt.
If I were to nitpick then the only issues were that playback of the cutscenes evidenced occasional juddering (not very often, though) despite the frame counter showing no drop in frame-rate. Oh, and what they’ve labelled “Edge” anti-aliasing still gives jaggies even when set to its maximum of 8x but, thankfully, the alternative option of using FXAA mostly remedies that.
I don’t know what other users are experiencing but on my PC the game runs beautifully and even though it’s not a full remaster it nevertheless is an epic improvement over what I recall of the PS3 version. Great work by Platinum and Sega considering the low asking price.
F*ck you. I’m still downloading 🙁
😛
P.S. Yeah, I pre-ordered it too….. First game in years. Assuming this even counts, considering it’s a re-release/port, rather than a new game unto itself.
Haha! It’ll be worth the wait. I just installed Bayonetta too and was pleased to see that it also runs so well. I’m in Platinum + Sega heaven today following having tolerated the crappy console versions of said games until now.
Yeah, same engine & all, so I’m assuming a lot of the work to make it PC-compatible carried over between the two, allowing them to make two ports in such a short amount of time, with probably only so much effort, overall, which is great.
Indeed, Bayonetta especially, it’s great to finally be off of that single-digit FPS piece of sh*t PS3 port we had to endure until the PC version came out ^^ And wow, the detailing on the Vanquish port, really showcases how much work went into the game all along, only for it all to never be appreciated, because the console hardware was too sh*t for it.
P.S. Still downloading……. I hate you. 😛 But seriously, first game I pre-order in years, & it doesn’t come with pre-loading? DAMN YOU SEGA!
Oh, & since I was so bored, I even watched the DigitalFoundry video, I found out that ~14/16.2GBs of the sh*t I’m downloading is cinematics…… Yay.
On the subject of the PC version’s optimisation there’s an interesting remark by Digital Foundry in their Vanquish analysis video. He commented on how the game appears to take advantage of multiple CPU cores, i.e. the coding is multi-threaded. Considering the low price and the game’s last-gen console origins I’d say that’s pretty impressive work. Some other devs/publishers would have knocked out a quick/lazy port that hammered only one or two CPU cores because it was too much effort for them to optimise for quad-core and above CPUs.
Yeah, I bought Bayonetta on PS3 at the time of release without then knowing of how abysmal it was. It proved to be one of many games on said console that opened my eyes to ditching consoles for PC so in that respect I suppose it did me a favour.
Well spotted re: LSS. One to watch out for with future projects, then.
LOL! Indeed. No matter, though. Those cutscene videos with the PC version are of noticeably higher quality than on console. The aforementioned occasional juddering will likely be soon sorted with a patch.
Wil it use all 8 cores and 12 threads of my ryzen 1700 then?
16 threads if it has 8 cores, surely? That aside, I’m guessing it will but can’t say so with any certainty. Digital Foundry tested the game with a range of Intel CPUs but didn’t comment on AMD CPUs.
The science has raised hands 🙂
SEGA still getting their heads entirely out of their *sses & all that 😛
Rocket slide your a*s on over to the Steam page and buy this sh*t!
That should’ve been the official marketing slogan.
Does anybody know if it offers a higher res than 1080p?
“Unlocked resolutions – play at 4K and beyond”
Thanks great news.
This is what happens when you cross Gears of War with Max Payne and Sonic The Hedgehog.
Plays pc version with controller…KILL YOURSELF!!!
No you dont get a thumbs gamespot you get a downvote, everyone downvote the video, freaking consoletards
Yeah, but he’s supposed to be showing off the PC version, specifically, with all of its PC-specific features.
pirates rejoice!

Pre-ordered it last week, but then I haven’t played more than 5 minutes of Bayonetta yet and I bought them together. lol Maybe in a month or two I’ll take some time to play some games.
ugly graphics and outdated mechanics. witcher 3 looks and plays better.
